Guelph, Ontario’s John McCrae Mentioned Tonight On Jeopardy!

Guelph, Ontario saw one of its local heroes mentioned on tonight’s episode of Jeopardy!

During the game (which aired on Wednesday, December 28, 2016), under the $800 clue in THEY SAID IT WITH FLOWERS, the clue read:

John McCrae: “In Flanders fields” these “blow / between the crosses, row on row”

Contestant Justin Scace, a writer and editor from East Lyme, CT, gave the correct response of “What are poppies”?

Scace went on to win the game over Stephanie Schlatter (Toledo, OH) and Mike Lamar (Wichita Falls, TX), earning $14,400 in total and the opportunity to defend his title on tomorrow’s episode.

According to J! Archive, this is the first time McCrae had been mentioned on the show since 2010.

In Guelph, Ontario, one can visit McCrae House, the historic site which was the birthplace of the famous Canadian poet.
