Where do you get that gift wrap?

Andy here with the final recap of the week!

A.C. Hawley and Cori Wilhelm are the challengers today for Damian Henri; he won $63,600 over his last two days! Remember, Cori will be doing a Q&A with Jeanie!

J! Round categories”:

OUTDOOR DRAMAS
CHICKEN DISHES
“WATER” WORKS
LIFE IS A SOAP OPERA
SCIENCE
BETWEEN JOBS

We got through CHICKEN DISHES, “WATER” WORKS, and parts of LIFE IS A SOAP OPERA and SCIENCE in the first 15. All 3 contestants had a chance to show off their knowledge and the scores sat at:

A.C. $2,600
Cori $2,200
Damian $1,200

A.C.’s dissertation (in Media Studies) is about the Real Housewives of Atlanta! Cori’s mother’s ringtone is the Jeopardy! think music!

Coming out of the break, A.C. did well in both SOAP OPERA and SCIENCE.

The Daily Double was in the last category, OUTDOOR DRAMAS, and it was at $800. It was A.C.’s to play, with scores of:

A.C. $7,000
Cori $2,600
Damian $1,200

A.C. bet just clue value, and he saw: Each year this Tony-winning play is performed on the grounds of Helen Keller’s birthplace . His correct response put him at $7,800!

Scores at the end of 30:

A.C. $7,800
Cori $2,600
Damian $1,200

DJ! round categories:
INDOOR DRAMAS
1967
FROM THE MALAY
I’M A CONNOISEUR
WORLDS & PHRASES
FANS OF THE MUSICAL ACT

You have no idea how I annoyed I was by the final category in this round! I had independently come up with that as a category at pub quiz and now if I run it, I’ll look like I’m copying Jeopardy! Oh well, at least I ran the category.

The first Daily Double stayed hidden for awhile, as Cori and Damian caught up to A.C., though A.C. got to it, under 1967 $1600. Scores were:

A.C. $11,000
Cori $9,000
Damian $6,400

A.C. bet $2,000. His clue: In January, LBJ proposed these “Talks” to end the costly U.S.-Soviet weapons race. The judges ruled that A.C.’s response of “Peace” was not acceptable, that they needed the exact name, and his score fell to $9,000.

The final Daily Double was under FROM THE MALAY $1600 (Cori missed finding it when she went over to WORLDS & PHRASES $2000, but you can’t fault that choice there). It went to Damian, with the scores as follows:

Cori $10,200
A.C. $9,000
Damian $8,800

Damian bet $100. Can I ask what on earth was wrong with $1,500. Why is Damian a Jeopardy! champion? His clue: From Malay for “sheath”, it’s a Malay garment that’s wrapped around the lower body & tucked in at the waist. His correct response put him at $8,900 as the end of round signal came.

Cori $10,200
A.C. $9,000
Damian $8,900

FJ! category: COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD

FJ! clue: By population, it’s the largest country in the world without nuclear weapons

Damian 8900 + 6500 = 15400
A.C. 9000 – 8500 = 500
Cori 10200 + 7801 = 18001

(I said Brazil, but I also had my brain clouded as I was still in shock from the earlier Daily Double wager.)

Cori’s the new champion, happily and thankfully! You have no idea how glad I am that Damian’s wager was not rewarded with another win. In fact, had his strategy been any better, I’m guessing that he would have been a favourite to reach at least the ToC final!

Cori’ll be back Monday to defend; Jeanie’ll be back to blog it!
