Andy back with another recap!

Amanda Farrish and Jeffrey Wachs are the challengers for Mark Japinga; will he win the all-important 4th game today?

J! round categories:
CHIEF JUSTICES OF THE U.S.
LEND AN “EAR”
WRITERS’ HOBBIES
WHO’S YOUR CADDIE?
PUSH & PULL
¡HOLA TEQUILA!

The opening 14 clues were all Mark; Amanda and Jeffrey got 1 clue apiece! Mark ran WHO’S YOUR CADDIE? and then found the first Daily Double under CHIEF JUSTICES OF THE U.S. $400. Scores at this point were:

Mark $3,800
Jeffrey $800
Amanda $600

Mark, probably cognizant on his 3 misses yesterday on clues I didn’t find too difficult, bet $1,500. His clue: This Chief Justice once wrote, “I don’t remember that I ever was President”. A correct response here put his score at $5,300. At the end the first segment, coming in after Mark ran CHIEF JUSTICES OF THE U.S., the scores were:

Mark $7,700
Jeffrey $800
Amanda $600

Amanda’s father was on the show in 1997; I couldn’t find the reference to him in the Archive, though I’m sure one of the people who has every episode’s notes on paper would know!

Coming out of the break, Mark picked up 7 correct answers; Jeffrey had more luck himself, picking up 7 himself. Amanda isn’t likely going to pass her father’s score from his 1997 appearance, whatever it was, scoring only 1 correct response herself.

Scores at the end of 30:
Mark $10,900
Jeffrey $5,800
Amanda $1,200

DJ! round categories:
ANIMAL IDENTITY
ADJECTIVES
MEDITERRANEAN ISLANDS
ALSO A 4-LETTER BAND
PLANES, TRAINS
AUTOBIOGRAPHIES

Jeremy made a half-hearted attempt at Daily Double hunting, going out of order in a couple of spots. He did end up at the first Daily Double of the round, at the bottom of AUTOBIOGRAPHIES, just after he had taken the lead! Scores were:

Jeffrey $12,600
Mark $11,700
Amanda $3,600

Jeffrey bet $3,000. His clue: His autobiography was first published in 1917 under the German title “Der Rote Kampfflieger”. Jeffrey went for Adolf Hitler and his score fell to $9,600. That was a difficult one!

The final Daily Double came 4 clues later, at MEDITERRANEAN ISLANDS $1600. This one was Mark’s, and the scores were:

Mark $13,300
Jeffrey $9,600
Amanda $2,800

Mark bet $4,000. His clue: Its capital, Valletta, was named for a Grand Master of the Knights Hospitallers. A correct response put him at $17,300.

After the final Daily Double, Mark only picked up 3 clues, and none of the last 10! Jeff got 6 of those 10 last clues to make the game much closer going into Final!

Scores going into Final:
Mark $20,900
Jeffrey $17,600
Amanda $3,600

FJ! category: THE WORLD OF TV

FJ! clue: In 2013 Britain marked this show’s 50th anniversary with a series of stamps of the 11 actors who have played the lead role

Amanda 3600 + 3600 = 7200
Jeffrey 17600 + 14000 = 31600
Mark 20900 + 15000 = 35900

Mark is now a 4-day champion, with $112,600 in winnings! Barring a huge number of 5-time champs, Mark should make the ToC with this win!

Jeanie will have the next couple of recaps; Mark goes for Win #5 tomorrow!
