Andy here with Wednesday and Neal Pollack’s the defending champion!
A couple of updates:
1) Still no Hometown Howdies at the J! Youtube channel…sigh.
2) Stephanie from Monday’s episode is willing to do a Q&A for us – if you have anything that you’d like us to ask her, leave a comment!
The challengers today are Eric Winschel and Kamal Foreman; will Neal win game #2?
J! round categories:
I SAW IT ON BUZZFEED
STRATEGY GAMES
THE BIBLE
THE TALES OF HASSELHOFF, MAN
ONE NATION
IN DIVISIBLE
I ran STRATEGY GAMES but was very disappointed to see no questions about Scrabble!
ONE NATION $400 had the Daily Double; the scores were:
Neal $2,600
Kamal $2,400
Eric $1,200
Eric made it a True Daily Double! His clue: 21 counties including Gavleborg & Vastmanland. Correct answer there from Eric? Yep! $2,400 is his score now.
A few clues later came the first break. The scores were:
Kamal $3,200
Eric $3,000
Neal $2,600
A coworker of one of my best friends was the court reporter on the Ikea Monkey custody case, as referenced in the $400 clue on I SAW IT ON BUZZFEED (A monkey in a coat became an Internet star after it as left at this Swedish furnishings store)
There were a couple of clues left on the board at the end of the round, but the scores sat at:
Eric $7,000
Kamal $4,800
Neal $3,000

POLITICAL BEFORE & AFTER
STARTS WITH AN ANTONYM OF…
Neal went straight to AUTHORS ON AUTHORS $2000 – and he found what he was looking for, the first Daily Double!
Neal bet $3,000. His clue: Vachel Lindsay’s poem “The Raft” said this author “in white stands gleaming like a pillar of the night”. Neal gave an incorrect response and fell to $0.
However, he built his score up by working downwards through AUTHORS and upwards through MOVIE LINES to find the $2000 clue in MOVIES had the Daily Double! Scores here were:
Kamal $8,400
Eric $7,000
Neal $4,400
Neal bet $4,000. His clue: 1950s: “I now pronounce you Men & Wives”. Sadly for Neal, another incorrect response put him at $400. Time to rebuild!
POLITICAL BEFORE & AFTER $1200 was my favorite: An “Atlas Shrugged” author turns into a Kentucky senator who loves him some “Atlas Shrugged” — I definitely used this answer line in one of my own games at Squirrel Tooth Alice’s back in April!
Meanwhile, Kamal kept on having some nice buzzer mojo, but Eric and Neal got enough to keep her in check!
Scores going into Final:
Kamal $15,200
Neal $10,000
Eric $9,400
FJ! category: 20th CENTURY NAMES
FJ! clue: Since his 1988 death, he’s been inducted into the U.S. hockey, world figure skating & national inventors hall of fame
Eric 9400 – 9000 = 400
Neal 10000 + 9999 = 19999
Kamal 15200 – 4801 = 10399
Bauer isn’t a bad guess, to be honest — you might think he had something to do with inventing ice skates? Gordie Howe is still alive, though, and my jaw dropped when I saw that answer. Glad to see Neal win after his chances on the Daily Doubles!
Neal’s a 2-day champ, $45,999. He’ll play tomorrow and I’ll recap it. See you tomorrow!
