After two weeks and seven episodes, Jeopardy! Masters has dropped from six players to four for the semi-finals. The standings from the quarterfinals have been reset to zero, and after four games (two episodes)—every three-player combination of the four remaining players—the top three will play in a two-game total-point final on Wednesday, May 24. Here’s the “tale of the tape” of the remaining four players:

Andy’s Thoughts: James is the clear favorite going into the semi-finals of Jeopardy! Masters and the only disagreement among pundits would be to what degree James is the favorite. James won 6 of his 7 games in the quarterfinals—but has also missed 8 consecutive Final Jeopardy! clues, dating back to the Greatest of All Time Tournament in 2020. Between that and the variance inherent in a game of Jeopardy! means that “the field” still has a slight advantage over James at this point.

Andy’s Thoughts: Andrew finished the quarterfinals in second place, but he definitely didn’t seem to be as strong as the tournament carried on. (Though, to be fair, becoming a new parent would absolutely do that). As always, Andrew lives and dies by the Daily Doubles; if they work out in his favor over the next two episodes, we will absolutely see him in the final.

Andy’s Thoughts: Matt seems to have found his game as the tournament progressed and was the only player to beat James Holzhauer in the quarters. If Matt can keep this up, he has a very good chance at making the finals—he’s second-favorite at this point for a reason.

Andy’s Thoughts: Mattea had a few very strong performances in the quarterfinals; they even impressed the show’s producers, who made a point on a recent Inside Jeopardy! to compliment Mattea’s very strong timing on the signaling device. Unfortunately, with the taping schedule of the end of the tournament not being publicized, it will be difficult to tell how much Mattea was affected by the death of their father in early May. (I would like to offer my condolences to Mattea and their family.)
