I’m happy to report that yesterday‘s busy day was a happy one. (How was your Christmas?) This is the final piece of it! I admit I slept about 4 hours between driving home and blogging now. As a result I’m fresh(er) for it, but not so much so that I’m going to play first before blogging the episode. 🙂
Before this recap, I got an idea after thinking about last week’s adventure in Culver City: If I can’t be on the Clue Crew, what if I could recap every episode watching from the audience instead of at home? (I’d post the recaps on the day they aired, obviously.) I admit there’s a lot I’d need to work out – I’d want to get paid since I won’t move to Los Angeles. So what kind of entity would sponsor me? Announcer Johnny told the audience last week that 9 million people watch the show every day. Surely there’s got to be someone! Also, I’d need to figure out a schedule at work. (How often does Jeopardy! tape, anyway; does anyone know?) This is an exciting idea for me to think about (one of many). Hopefully this won’t be the last that comes of it.
Mr. Trebek pointed out at the beginning of today’s game that the last two have been runaways for Larry White.

Larry found the first Daily Double of the round, at only 800 in Flag Terms. Mr. Trebek said, “You’re in a bit of a contest today, Larry.”

Larry wagered 6000 (I like it!) on this clue: “From the Greek for ‘sign bearer,’ it’s the type of flag used to send messages from ship to shore.” Larry knew it immediately.
I wish Anthony or Larry would’ve found the last Daily Double, just to continue to make things interesting. But it was Roxann, in Medicine.

She wagered 3000 on this clue: “The name of this anti-inflammatory comes from the longer version, isobutylphenyl propionic acid.” She said “acetominophen”! (Wrong.) Then Anthony got the next clue, worth 2000, wrong. Roxann dove for 2000 clues, and they were both triple-stumpers. Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning with 5 clues left. When Anthony got one right, he went to 800! We did see all the clues.

The Final Jeopardy category was Authors! Ooh! This was the clue: “‘The American Tolkien’ was what Time magazine called this author with the same 2 middle initials as Tolkien.” Oh, come on. I thought this was easy but 2 contestants got it wrong! Like at the beginning of the episode, as you can see in the picture, Roxann looked off to the side as the Think Music played! Maybe she was thinking about her response but she seemed to know it was wrong when Mr. Trebek addressed her, and she was not writing when the camera showed her at the end of the Think Music. She lost 4998. Anthony was right and added 8601, who then had one dollar more than Larry. The defending champ was wrong, and did he wager anything? Yes, 3000. So I don’t update the ToC list today. I’m sorry to see Larry go!
I only blogged today’s episode and didn’t play. That means I’m not listing my triple-stumpers either. I should have played, maybe – the boards seemed easy. Is it because Jeopardy thought more people would be watching since it’s Christmas? Oh well, it may well be rerun someday! At which point I’ll wish I’d tracked my Coryat this time. 😛
