I kicked myself for not pulling the trigger on this one in Doohickeys: “The raised connector for the positive side of a car battery.” I knew “cathode,” but what was the other acceptable response? I can’t understand Mr. Trebek, and closed-captioning didn’t have it. It sounded like “turman.” I could look it up, but I wonder if anyone knows it.

I responded correctly but took it back on this one in Literatura en Espanol: “Beloved by girls: ‘Mujercitas.'” I did get this triple-stumper in Food Words Created in the Americas (weird category name): “It’s a type of pepper, or the dish of the pepper ground with chopped onion, bell pepper, kidney beans & tomatoes.” I’d have gotten this right even if I hadn’t had some at lunch!
Mike found the Daily Double of the round in Tomb Service.

Mike wagered 1500 on this clue: “This writer’s tomb in Amiens, France was featured on the masthead of Amazing Stories magazine for many years.” Mike answered quickly and was wrong, but then he said the correct response!
I got this triple-stumper, the last clue in the round, in Doohickeys: “That ‘ce’ key on calculators…what’s it stand for again?” I didn’t know the answer and always wondered what it stood for, so this was a guess.

Mike wagered 2000 on this clue: “In 1758 the British captured Fort Louisbourg on Cape Breton Island, thus gaining access to this vital river.” Mike knew it immediately. And what do you know, he found the last Daily Double too, in Driving in Europe.

This time Mike wagered 2500 on this clue: “This little 1959 car was built because of the Suez fuel crisis; a British race car driver soon put his own stamp on it.” Mike got this one right too.
I got this triple-stumper at the last second, since that’s not what a “monokini” is today: “Term coined in the early ’60s for a 2-piece bathing suit with the top piece missing.” Maybe that’s what threw the contestants off.
There were 7 clues left when Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning, and poor Janel was in the hole after 2 negs since Mike’s second Daily Double. She negged one more time, on a 2000 clue. “Boo hiss,” Mr. Trebek said. She also got one more right but of course it wasn’t enough.

The Final Jeopardy category was Authors. This was the clue: “An international airport in Jamaica is named for this author who set many of his stories of the 1950s & 1960s there.” I didn’t know this and wouldn’t have gotten it. Rani was wrong too, but Mike was right. He added 9010 while Rani lost all but a dollar. Mike is a giant-killer!
My Coryat today was 21400 (23000 without one neg). And the ToC list doesn’t change.
