Andy here with another week of recaps on Jeopardy! I’ve got the French Open on in the background — and (whom I believe to be) Jeanie’s favourite, David Ferrer, playing!

This week’s contestants:
Tim Anderson, Rockford, IL
Greg Draves, New York, NY
Patti Duplaga, Akron, OH
Rachel Gordon, Washington, DC
Lauren Hopkins Karcz, Atlanta, GA
David Moore, Nashville, TN
Kirk Nelson, Seattle, WA
Kathy Nitschke, Greenbush, ME
J. Tarter-Fox, Cincinnati, OH
Susan Torsell-Damico, Hamburg, NY
Jonathan Van Balen, Lexington, KY

Patti and J are the two challengers for Kirk!

J! round categories:
FAMOUS NAMES
MANGIA!
INSTRUMENTAL ROCKERS
CATS IN PROVERBS
OFFICIAL STATE STUFF
CURTAINS

The Daily Double came out very early on; J preferred INSTRUMENTAL ROCKERS as opposed to STATE STUFF, but when Kirk went to STATE STUFF $400, he got the first Daily Double (on clue 5)! Scores were:

J $800
Kirk $600
Patti $0

Kirk bet $1,000. His clue: To represent the abundance of Washington’s forests, historian C.T. Conover coined this nickname. His correct response put him at $1,600!

The rest of the opening round belonged to Kirk and J; the scores were:

Kirk $4,000
J $3,000
Patti $200

I was hoping for a story behind why it’s just J – but it appeared as though Alex wanted to talk about the trivia team name “Suck it, Trebek.” *eyeroll*

A Triple Stumper I got (MANGIA $400): This Italian specialty is made by constantly stirring hot stock into rice. Making me hungry!

Patti recovered nicely in the second half of the round, picking up 6 clues! The scores at the end of 30 were:

J $6,000
Patti $4,400
Kirk $4,400

DJ! round categories:
ROMANCE IN LITERATURE
MUSEUMS OF THE WORLD
CALL TRIPLE A
ASIAN LANGUAGES
SEAN PENN
MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD

This round belonged mostly to J. Two separate runs of 5 straight correct answers for him really did good things to his score!

The first Daily Double was Kirk’s though, at the bottom of MUSEUMS, on the 10th clue of the round. Scores were:
J $10,800
Kirk $7,600
Patti $6,400

Kirk bet just $2,500. His clue: This London art museum opened in 1897, with much of the gallery being a gift from the industrialist for whom it’s named. Another correct response put him at $10,100!

The second Daily Double was J’s, at the bottom of ASIAN LANGUAGES (the 20th clue of the round). The scores at this point were:
J $16,400
Kirk $10,100
Patti $6,800

J bet $4,000. His clue: Sundanese & Dutch are 2 of the major languages spoken in this island nation. His correct response here put him at $20,100!

J closed out the game by picking up 7 of the final 10 clues, leading to a lock game and scores going into Final of:

J $28,800
Kirk $12,100
Patti $7,200

FJ! round category: EUROPEAN HISTORY

FJ! clue: This 17th century king named his throne room the Apollo Chamber

Patti 7200 + 7000 = 14200
Kirk 12100 – 2300 = 9800
J 28800 + 4500 = 33300

J is the new champion, and he’ll be back tomorrow!
