Good morning! Andy here with the recap of Wednesday’s show!
John Kyle Grady and Shanna Lafferty are the challengers for Mike Nickel, who beat Rani Peffer and won $29,210 yesterday!
J! round categories:
JOKERS ARE WILD
I’M HOLDING A PAIR
FULL HOUSE TAKES IT
FAR SOUTHERN NOVELS
PAPAL NAMES
ALSO A 2-LETTER POSTAL ABBREVIATION
We went to POSTAL ABBREVIATIONS and JOKERS ARE WILD first and the game was dominated by the two men; Shanna didn’t get in on the buzzer until the 11th clue! Scores at the first break:
Mike $5,400
John $2,600
Shanna $200
Shanna was a Rotary exchange student to Japan! John once intercepted a Doug Flutie pass at a Patriot tailgate!
FAR SOUTHERN NOVELS $800 had the Daily Double, and it was Shanna who got to play it! She hadn’t had the opporunity to play much, but the scores were:
Mike $6,600
John $4,200
Shanna $1,400
Shanna bet $1,000. Her clue: Beryl Bainbridge’s “Birthday Boys” fetes this explorer’s fatal 1912 expedition to the South Pole. Shanna went for “Perry” and fell to $400. By the end of the round, the scores were:
Mike $7,600
John $3,200
Shanna -$400
DJ! round categories:
REMEMBER 1791?
“B” GOOD
ENRAPTURED WITH RAPTORS
SEQUELS
EDUCATION
SOUND GEOGRAPHY
Shockingly to me, Shanna went Daily Double hunting in SEQUELS, but found nothing. She did well in the category to bring her score up!
The first 3 categories played (“B” GOOD, SEQUELS, SOUND GEOGRAPHY) had no Daily Double. However, ENRAPTURED WITH RAPTORS seemed to be a partially video category! Amazingly, there was no Daily Double there either! However, there was one under REMEMBER 1791? $1600 (surprise surprise!) and it was Shanna who found it! Scores:
John $12,400
Mike $12,000
Shanna $7,600
Shanna bet $5,000. Her clue: In August the Treaty of Sistova ended war between the Hapsburgs & this empire to the east. A correct response put her at $12,600 and into the lead!
The trivia gods, noticing that Shanna was making an effort to find these Daily Doubles, gave her the third and final one a few clues later, at EDUCATION $2000! Scores at this point were:
Shanna $14,200
John $13,600
Mike $12,000
Shanna bet $200. Her clue: This New Jersey-based organization says it’s the world’s largest provider of scholarships to young women. Her correct response put her at $14,400.
I can’t fault a $200 bet here, to be honest. It doesn’t risk the lead, and the clue is at the bottom of the category. However, John did get the $2000 clue in REMEMBER 1791? to retake the lead as the end-of-round signal came! Both Shanna and John played that endgame very well!
Scores going into Final:
John $16,000
Shanna $14,400
Mike $12,000
FJ! category: GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS
FJ! clue: Over 8,000 people have been saved from harm by this program authorized in a 1970 law, but we’re not allowed to name any
Mike 12000 – 11950 = 50
Shanna 14400 – 0 = 14400
John 16000 + 12801 = 28,801
Looking over at J! Board, you’ll find a couple of screenshots: One is of a Simpsons episode, where Homer’s wearing a shirt that says “Witness Relocation Program”; the other is of John’s, where it looks like he spelled it “Protction”. It’s pronounced the same way, I think it’s acceptable! I also agree with Stefan’s comment of “I was cursing the show for putting such an easy FJ at the end of a well-contested game.”
Oh well, John’s the champion now and he’ll defend his title tomorrow! I’ll be back with that recap!
