Andy here with Tuesday’s recap!
Rose Adams and Arne Lunde are the challengers for Bill Tolany, who won $15,700 yesterday. How much will someone win today?
J! round categories:
TV THROUGH THE YEARS
A CLASH OF SYMBOLS
THE ABCs OF NYC
COURTS OF ALL SORTS
THAT’S MY STORY
I’M “STICK”ING TO IT
The older Rose and Arne both did well in the TV THROUGH THE YEARS category – it took until the 8th clue for defending champ Bill to get in! By the end of 16, we reached our first break and had scores of:
Arne $3,200
Bill $2,200
Rose $800
Rose’s coworkers held bake sales to raise funds in order to get her out here!
Coming out of the break, Bill started looking for a Daily Double, but Rose got his first selected clue — and started going top to bottom. However, Bill eventually picked A CLASH OF SYMBOLS $1000 which had the round’s betting clue! Scores were:
Rose $3,600
Arne $3,400
Bill $2,200
Bill bet $2,200, claiming Alex goaded him into it. Alex got all defensive for some reason, thinking he “merely stated the obvious” (in reading the scores). Oh well, I like it! Bill’s clue: The eagle on the one-dollar bill grasps in its talons these seemingly antithetical items – I’m pretty sure I’d jokingly reach for my wallet on this clue, as I wouldn’t have been able to come up with them! Great clue, though! Bill couldn’t come up with an answer, though, and his score fell to $0.
We left 2 clues in THAT’S MY STORY behind; scores at the end of the round were:
Rose $3,600
Arne $3,600
Bill $400
DJ! round categories:
WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE
SCENTS & SENSE ABILITY
A PRINCE OF A GUY
DOUBLE THE VOWEL
ART
POP CULTURE FILL-INS
I was amazed that “ermine” was a Triple Stumper in ART, given a picture of Da Vinci’s “Lady With An Ermine”.
Bill barely enunciated the “What is” at times, Alex had to ask Bill to repeat himself a couple of times!
The Daily Doubles took a while to be uncovered; the first one was under WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE $800 and it was Rose’s to play! Scores were:
Rose $7,200
Bill $4,800
Arne $3,200
This is a perfect opportunity for Rose to put the game away here! She hesitatingly bet $3,000 (I was expecting to hear $300 out of her mouth after all of the hesitation)! Her clue: grolier.com says the U.S. built this “in ten years by taming a jungle, dividing a continent, and uniting two oceans”. Apparently the clue rendered her speechless, as she was unable to come up with the answer! Her score fell to $4,200.
Bill, having been handed the lead, went hunting over to A PRINCE OF A GUY $1600 on his first chance, and found the second Daily Double! Scores:
Bill $6,000
Rose $4,200
Arne $3,200
Bill bet $3,000. His clue: Portuguese exploration was financed by the Order of Christ, of which he was governor starting c. 1420 Finally, a contestant actually proffered a response on a Daily Double! This one was correct, too! Bill’s score went to $9,000.
Meanwhile, Alex just gave the minute-to-go signal. They made it through POP CULTURE FILL-INS (which had clues like HEY ____ ____ & ORDER), but still had a myriad other clues left! Scores going into Final:
Bill $8,600
Rose $5,400
Arne $3,200
FJ! category: THE CARIBBEAN
FJ! clue: Pico Duarte & Lago Enriquillo in this country 650 miles from Florida are the highest & lowest points in the Caribbean
Arne 3200 – 3200 = 0
Rose 5400 – 1001 = 4399
Bill 8600 + 2200 = 10800
I haven’t seen what Keith has had to say about this over at The Final Wager, but I’m sure he’ll really like Bill’s wager! When the leader’s score equals the sum of 2nd + 3rd, that’s one of the many bet-to-tie scenarios! I had the right island but the wrong half of it on this question! In any case, Bill is a 2-day champ, having won $26,500! He’ll be back tomorrow!
