Sarah found the Daily Double of the round in World of Facts. She never looked very happy throughout the episode, and I don’t love that in a contestant.

Sarah wagered 600 on this clue: “In 1808 Prince John made this New World city the capital of the Portuguese empire.” Sarah got this right after thinking about it.

Sarah swept Stone Cold Jane Austen to start the round! She led Jerry by 8200 then! He found the first Daily Double of the round in Word Origins. I could tell by the look on his face what he was gonna do.

He did in fact wager it all, which is what I’d have done too. This was the clue: “This purplish red is named for a town in northern Italy.” I’d have liked more time to think about it, but Jerry answered incorrectly!
For some reason Mr. Trebek hesitated before negging Rachel on this clue in Tunnels: “Connecting Midtown Manhattan with Weehawken, N.J., it’s one of the world’s busiest tunnels.” Poor Jerry must’ve thought Rachel’s answer was close, because he rang in and said the same thing. And he lost 2000! Bad timing for that because the next clue was the Daily Double, and it was his.

I wonder if Jerry still would’ve made it a true Daily Double if he had that 2000 back and thus more than half Sarah’s total. Not-so-incidentally there were 2 clues left on the board after this. Here’s his clue, in American History: “In May 1857, 2 months after his famous Supreme Court decision, he was freed by Taylor Blow of St. Louis.” When Jerry took so long to respond I was sure he was just re-reading to make sure he didn’t blow it…but blow it he did. This was an instaget for me. Now he had to get one of the last 2 clues right to stick around for the Final. He got one, and the last stayed covered. He was so happy you’d think he’d gotten another lock.

The Final Jeopardy category was Actors. This was the clue, which only took me a moment’s thought: “In the ’50s he won a Tony for best supporting actor in a musical & a best actor Oscar for playing the same role, a monarch.” There was some activity in my apartment today when Jeopardy! was on, so I figured I hadn’t noticed Jerry misspell the Final when I saw this:

But you know what? Apparently they were referring to Rachel. Of course they won’t reappear when I do a second search. Upon watching a second time I see there was kind of a lengthy exchange between Mr. Trebek and Rachel about the misspelling. Hey, I told you I was distracted! Anyway Jerry doubled his score. Rachel added 3000. Sarah wrote something I’d considered, and lost 2200. But she takes Jerry down!
