(Or maybe just I am.)

Andy here for the first of this week’s games. Today we have David Menchaca on the show for the third time; his challengers: Karen Griffin and Neil Ashar.

J! round categories: AMERICAN ISLANDS, THE HAULS OF CONGRESS, PLAYWRIGHTS, DOUBLE MEANINGS, FLUID SITUATIONS, and A HARRISON FORD FIESTA

David saw the Daily Double very early on, under A HARRISON FORD FIESTA $800. Holding only $800 (to Neil’s $1,000 and Karen’s $0), he only bet $800. The clue: In 2010, for the 25th anniversary of this movie, fans retraced Ford’s footsteps in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. David’s correct response put him at $1,600.

Sadly, Karen looked very nervous as the game progressed through the Jeopardy! round, though she did manage to rebound to get herself out of the red by the time we were done the opening round. David had a lead, though, at $6,600. Neil had $2,400 and Karen $1,200.

DJ! round categories: LANGUAGES IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE, EVERYONE’S AN ART CRITIC, 2 BY 4, TERMS OF ENDANGERMENT, A “LA” CARTE, THE WAR OF 1812 BICENTENNIAL

David and Neil got themselves into quite a battle early on, but it was David that found the first Daily Double in the round, under LANGUAGES IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE $1200. Holding a $10,200-$10,000 lead (Karen at $2,800), he bet $1500 and saw the following: Eesti, with dialects including southern & northern & Tallinn

Some surprise at TERMS OF ENDANGERMENT $2000: Right now, you really can’t avoid this word, from the old French for “divided game”; it’s all around you! Not sure if I liked the placement at $2,000 — but that’s why I blog the questions instead of write them! Neil got it for a key $2,000.

Karen saw her chance to bring herself back into the game when she found the game’s final Daily Double right after the “minute to go” warning, under EVERYONE’S AN ART CRITIC $1600. Holding $4,000 to David’s $14,100 and Neil’s $14,400, she bet $3,000 (a bet I’m okay with). Her clue: “Multi-images of Marilyn…are now…dated…where does that leave” his “art? On the wall, is the unfortunate answer” Her correct response brought her into range going into Final Jeopardy!

It was unfortunate when we realized that 2 BY 4 was a rock music category, as David was doing well in it when time ran out on the round.

Scores going into FJ!:
David $17,300
Neil $14,400
Karen $7,000

FJ! category: FICTIONAL PAIRS

FJ! clue: These 2 men first meet after one of them tells a friend, Stamford, of needing new lodgings in London

Karen $7,000 – $1,000 = $6,000
Neil $14,400 + $14,400 = $28,800
David $17,300 + $11,501 = $28,801 (3-day total $69,102)

It just wasn’t Karen’s day today. She definitely seemed very nervous and I bet she could have become champion on a different day.

My Coryat was $25,400, 32 right, 0 wrong. I haven’t read those books yet (they’re on my reading list), so I was out to lunch on the Final.
