Right from the start, it was Helen vs Joan. I noticed right away that Helen was very good at keeping the game moving! Diva was only able to get in twice over the first fifteen clues. At the end of those 15 clues, the scores were:

Helen recently acted in a theatre company in Alex’s hometown of Sudbury! She made a point of mentioning that “it was cold” there. Which is true, in December!
Helen and Joan kept battling back and forth, but it was Diva who saw the Daily Double in DVD SPECIAL FEATURES at $600! The antepenultimate clue of the opening round, the scores at this point were:
Joan $6,000
Helen $5,800
Diva $1,200
Diva did all she could here, betting all $1,200. Her clue: “The Rising”, “Comrades” & “Revolution parts 1 & 2” are special features of this Warren Beatty film. She had no idea whatsoever, and her score fell to $0. Helen got the $800 and Joan the $1000 clue, leading to scores after 30 of:

And the Joan and Helen battle continued, with Joan picking up some low-valued clues, and Helen picking up high-valued ones! That being said, Diva got to play her 2nd Daily Double when she picked up $1600 in THE RENAISSANCE and the Daily Double showed up at $2000! Scores at this point:

Even though she lamented “it worked out so well last time”, kudos to her for still going for $2,000 this time! Her clue:
Artisans who produced this stringed, pear-shaped instrument included Frei & Unverdorben. Sadly, she missed her second straight big clue, and her score fell to -$400.
You know what? I really admire Diva’s tenacity and perserverance, in spite of her missing both of her Daily Doubles and being out-buzzed frequently by her opponents!
Meanwhile, Helen ran SOCIAL MEDIA, and had a $6,000 lead! Joan came clawing back, though! Diva and Helen seemed to prefer THIS MEANS WAR! as a category, while Joan went back into Africa. It was Joan who was rewarded with the game’s final Daily Double, on the 29th clue. Scores at this point:
Helen $19,000
Joan $17,400
Diva $3,600
A $2,000 clue remained on the board.
Joan can’t both guarantee a stay within two-thirds if she’s wrong ($3,400 or less) and guarantee first place going into Final if she’s right ($3,601 or more). She chose to bet $3,000. Not what I would have done (I would have gone higher), but at least she didn’t bet $3,500!
Her clue: After Morocco allegedly aided a failed coup, Mauritania gravitated toward this third country that borders both. Her correct response put her at $20,400!
Needless to say, Helen got the game’s final clue (The phosphate-rich area called Western this lies between Mauritania & Morocco; both have claimed it), leading to scores going into Final of:
