Andy here with another recap!

Today’s contestants:

J! round categories:
MAP QUEST
HODGEPODGE
ANAGRAMS
LIBRARIES
THE BEST DEFENSE
A GOOD OFFENSE

Mary got a favourable timing ruling from the judges on ANAGRAMS $400 (Relative by marriage: MENIAL WORTH). She got more luck when she found the Daily Double early on as well, under LIBRARIES $1000. Scores:

Varun $2,000
Mary $2,000
Jenna $800

She bet $1,000. Her clue: “The National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland began with the collection of Dr. Joseph Lovell, this official” Her correct response put her at $3,000 — but I feel as though she left $1,000 on the table!

Scores at the first break:
Mary $3,000
Varun $2,400
Jenna $1,000

Mary once had a 10th-grader who asked her if Mark Twain was Shania Twain’s father. Ever the troll, Mary said “Yes”.

Coming back out of the break, Jenna had the best luck on the buzzer, getting in much more often than over the first 15 clues! The less than a minute signal came with 6 clues to play; 2 clues in A GOOD OFFENSE (a sports category) went unplayed. Boo! Scores after the J! round:

Jenna $5,000
Mary $3,400
Varun $3,200

DJ! round categories:
HERE COMES BOO BOO, HONEY
LITERARY LANDMARKS
THAT MOVIE DID A NUMBER ON ME
HISTORIC NAMES
LOOK ON THE UNION LABEL
“YS” WORDS

Jenna’s buzzer skills continued, even beating Mary into a question about Mark Twain! The first Daily Double belonged to Jenna too, under HISTORIC NAMES $2000! Scores:

Jenna $11,400
Varun $6,000
Mary $600

Jenna bet $2,000. Her clue: In 1861, 4 years after being selected to preside over Mexico’s Supreme Court, he was elected President. Jenna went for Zapata and fell to $9,400.

Mary did very well in THAT MOVIE DID A NUMBER ON ME, getting 4/5! The minute-to-go signal came with 7 clues to go. The final Daily Double went unplayed, buried somewhere in LOOK ON THE UNION LABEL!

Scores going into Final:

Jenna $11,400
Varun $6,800
Mary $4,600

FJ! category: TV CHARACTERS

FJ! clue: Jerry Jones, Mark Cuban & Mike Rawlings were 3 of the real folks at the 2013 memorial for this TV character

Mary 4600 – 4600 = 0
Varun 6800 + 4601 = 11401
Jenna 11400 – 2201 = 9199

I have a feeling they stopped tape on Varun’s answer, and decided to accept it. He’s a 2 day champion, $18,600. I got it at about the 20 second mark!

I’ll have tomorrow’s recap as well, see you then!
