I’m already excited for our next Hangout, on Monday at 5:30 Central. Colby Burnett, who appears on King of the Nerds starting this Friday, is expected to be there. I hope you will be too!
Yesterday, Nicholas Berube won for the second time.

Nicholas

Rebeca Avila

Daniel Grigg

Nicholas started out hot, sweeping Sneaker Brands. Daniel looked like he was trying to ring in sometimes, though. And it was Rebeca who found the Daily Double, in “A”cademy Award Nominees.
Nicholas 2600 (I messed up somewhere because I have that Nicholas got six right and no negs. He should have at least 3000 for sweeping a category though.)
Daniel 0 (I have that he got one wrong and none right! What’s the matter with me today?)
Rebeca 800
Rebeca wagered 800 on this clue: “11 nominations, 1984; it won 8 Oscars, including costume design.” I got this one right, but Rebeca said “Titanic”!! In 1984? And the category? At the first break:
Nicholas 3200 (One right)
Daniel 800 (One right)
Rebeca 1000 (One right)
Did you hear Trebek call Rebeca “Teresa Avila”? Then he called her Teresa again during Daniel’s interview. He apologized at the beginning of the Double Jeopardy round. Later, Rebeca abbreviated A Brief History of Mime with “Time.” Twice!
Oh, we had some clues covered at the end of the round.
Nicholas 7200 (6 right)
Daniel 3600 (5 right)
Rebeca 1200 (One right)
I got this one only after Nicholas negged on it, in Entertainment: “This Australian hip-hopper used the pet name/street name system to come up with her rap name.”
Rebeca found the first Daily Double of Double Jeopardy in Dead Poets.
Nicholas 10400 (4 right and one wrong)
Daniel 5600 (3 right and one wrong)
Rebeca 2400 (2 right and one wrong)
Rebeca wagered on this clue: “So glistered the dire snake, and into fraud/led Eve our credulous mother, to the tree/of Prohibition, root of all our woe.” She got it right!
I got this final clue of the round right, in Society. It was a triple-stumper: “The Ebenezer Society, established in New York in 1843, moved to this state & changed its name to Amana.”
Uh oh, clues left on the board!
Nicholas 12000 (3 right and one wrong)
Daniel 6000 (One right)
Rebeca 8600 (4 right and one wrong)
The Final Jeopardy category is Last Words. This is the clue: “In 1170 he said, ‘I am ready to die for my Lord, that in my blood the church may obtain liberty and peace.” Daniel was right, hooray! He doubled his score. Rebeca was wrong and she lost 3500. Nicholas? Wrong!! He lost 5400. Daniel, thanks for not making me update the ToC list, if nothing else. Mwah.
I did not track my Coryat today. I was out with my dad today, and I wanted to get this post done before the Husker game and the State of the Union address! Not to mention Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal playing tonight, and Child Genius…ay ay ay. This is not a good time for my mouse to not work. 🙁
