My Coryat from this weekend’s rerun was 22000 (22200 without a neg on the first clue of the game). The episode originally aired 11-28-11, and when I first played my score was 21000.
Now for the third semifinal of the College Tournament! The winner of this game will join Kristen Jolley and Trevor Walker for the two-day Final.

Jim found the first Daily Double of the round, in Political Quotes. We had seen 7 clues. Julia had gotten 3 right and had 1200, while Nishanth had gotten 2 right and had 1400. Jim had also gotten 2 right and had 1000. He wagered all of it on this clue: “De Gaulle warned JFK that America would step ‘into a bottomless military and political quagmire’ in this place.” Jim got it. He went on a mini-tear then, answering 5 more right before the next break and arriving there with 5600. Nishanth got one right and had 1600, and Julia still had 1200.
At the end of the round, Jim still led but with 9600. He’d gotten 7 right since the break. Nishanth had gotten 5 right and one wrong, and had 5000. Julia had gotten 3 right and had 2600.
Jim found the first Daily Double of the next round rather early, in Stuff about States. Each contestant had gotten one right, and Nishanth had also gotten one wrong. Jim had 10800, Nishanth had 4600, and Julia had 3000. Jim wagered 7200 (drawing a “whoa” from Mr. Trebek) on this clue: “Of the 4 states officially called commonwealths, it’s alphabetically last.” Jim got it!
I joined my friend Carol for dinner tonight. (I must’ve had it on the brain but I thought Mr. Trebek said the Double Jeopardy round category was Stuff about Steaks.) Carol gives me (thus my mom too) her People magazines after she’s read them. I got two clues right today just from having read one she gave me, last night. In Reality Show Titles: “In 2012, featuring Jeremiah, Kate, Abe, Rebecca & Sabrina: ‘Breaking’ _____.” And in Live Entertainment: “From the Spanish for ‘shell,’ this California valley lent its name to a festival where you could hear Franz Ferdinand in 2013.” Carol also grilled me (no pun intended) about Learned League, and I still didn’t have much to say.
Jim found the next Daily Double too, in Novellas. It seemed like he was searching for it. He’d gotten 2 right and one wrong since his last Daily Double, and had 19200. Julia had gotten 4 right and one wrong and had 5400. Nishanth had gotten 5 right and one wrong, and had 9400. Jim wagered 9800 this time on this easy clue: “A prototype of the form, this Boccaccio work deals with 10 people who each tell a story a day.” Jim smiled in recognition – he got it! Now that we were out of Daily Doubles, it really didn’t look good for Julia and Nishanth. Indeed, at the end of the round, Jim had 32600 while Nishanth had 15800 and Julia had 9000. Jim had gotten 3 right since his last Daily Double. Nishanth had gotten 6 right and one wrong, and Julia had gotten 2 right.
The Final Jeopardy category was Famous Europeans. This was the clue: “After moving to Argentina in 1949, this industrialist was named a righteous Gentile by Yad Vashem.” I was hopeless here. Julia was wrong and some people are rather bent out of shape about her response of “Himmler.” She lost 8000. Nishanth got it and doubled his score. Jim got it too and added 4. We’ll see him in the Final!
