Happy Fourth of July to my American friends and readers!

I’m going to try something a little bit different for the rest of the season. In case people in early markets want to discuss things about the show, I’m going to put up the daily thread (and the Final Jeopardy) earlier in the day, so that people can leave comments. I’ll then leave the final scores, incorrect responses to Final, and game statistics in my own comment!

Today’s contestants:

Justin Lucas, a video production specialist from Reston, VA

wk43_0704_0708_lucas_lineup

Liz Hedreen, a stay-at-home mom from Kirkland, WA

wk43_0704_0708_hedreen_lineup

Zach Klitzman, a public historian from Washington, DC (1-day total: $37,601)

Final Jeopardy! category: DISNEYLAND

Final Jeopardy! clue: This attraction was originally built for the New York World’s Fair in 1964, with proceeds going to UNICEF

What is “It’s A Small World”?

Remember to vote in our Poll of the Week!
[yop_poll id=”7″]

The name of the attraction comes from the Sherman Brothers song written in the wake of the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, intended to promote world peace and brotherhood.

One of the advantages of the attraction at the New York World’s Fair was that it actually had a very high rider-per-hour count, which meant that lineups were consistently short. That capacity was seen as incredibly valuable (obvious from a business standpoint, as standing in line is rather inefficient).

There are now versions of this ride not only at Disneyland (opened 1966), but also Magic Kingdom (1971), Tokyo Disneyland (1983), Disneyland Park (Paris) (1992), and Hong Kong Disneyland (2008).

Because of its significance to Disneyland, it is argued on Songfacts that the song is the most performed and translated song of all time.
