Here’s a tip about something not to do – the contestant co-ordinators must have been pulling their hair out over this, because they specifically tell you not to do this – but Lauren had a habit of going “same category” when calling for a clue. (Also, it bothers me when trying to follow along at home. It makes it more difficult to chart.)
Meanwhile, Cory bet $9,700 of his $9,800 on a late-game Daily Double and missed. He was well behind at that point, and you’ve got to take that shot!

Just to be clear to the readers, I didn’t think LBJ, the sitting president who was forced out because of the Vietnam War, was the answer to the Daily Double! After my 5 seconds of blanking, Alex said say something, and as time ran out I said “Johnson” just, well, because.
I didn’t know Eugene McCarthy. No excuse there. A clear gap in my understanding of 1968, as my whole life I just assumed RFK was the key competitor and once he was out, Humphrey was in (despite the riots at the convention). So, now that I see McCarthy’s name in Bernie Sanders articles now, I’ll obviously never forget him.
Congrats to Jason, who is clearly smarter than I am. No shame in losing. I’m glad I went all in, basically. (I should have went all in, mathematically. I just wanted to stay around for Final Jeopardy!)

Cory, I’m actually an idiot. I’m just really, really good at buzzing in. Much respect then, as now, for the onions you showed with the Daily Double wager, even if I did stop breathing for a moment or two when you gave the amount. You and Lauren were among my favorite people the entire tournament, and it absolutely sucked that we all got thrown together and were forced to fight in the thunderdome. You are the man, and as you well know, we will be hitting up some wrestling at some point!
