Who is Kunta Kinte?

Results will go up on the main page late afternoon, with full stats early evening. They will be seen in the comments section at the bottom of the main page.

Kunta Kinte was the main character of the 1976 Alex Haley novel Roots: The Saga of an American Family. The 1977 television miniseries, titled Roots, was among the most-watched television series of all time. All eight of its episodes rank among the top 100 most-viewed all time (Nielsen ratings over 40%), and its finale on January 30th is still the 3rd-most-watched episode of television in American history. LeVar Burton played the young Kunta Kinte, John Amos played the older Kunta.

It was remade in 2016 and aired in History, A&E, and Lifetime, with Malachi Kirby portraying Kunta.

  • Scores going into Final Jeopardy:
    Nate $14,600
    Sarah $9,600
    Bryn $8,300

    Final Results:
    Bryn $8,300 – $2,500 = $5,800 (Who was Alex Haley?)
    Sarah $9,600 – $9,595 = $5 (Who was John Paul Jones?)
    Nate $14,600 + $4,700 = $19,300 (1-day champ: $19,300)

At the end of Double Jeopardy, Alex went “And the last clue…” with two clues on the board and picked one to read, taking selection away from Sarah. This sort of mistake would generally be judged to not have a meaningful effect on the outcome of the game, as both final clues were eventually played and Daily Doubles were not affected.
