Andy here posting at The Jeopardy! Fan!
The Teen Tournament starts on Wednesday, so we only have 5 names in the “This Week’s Contestants” section!
Joshua Brakhage, South Coffeyville, OK
Robert Chodola, San Diego, CA
Kristin Durianski, Merrillville, IN
Heather Montanye, Monticello, FL
Allison Swanberg, Falls Church, VA
Jeanie wanted me to mention that Allison has agreed to a Q&A – and I’ll be posting my interview of Michelle Souza from last week in the next few days!
Of course, Joshua’s a 3-time champion right now, with winnings thus far of $49,605!
Kristin Durianski and Heather Montanye are the challengers today for Joshua!
J! round categories:
PROVERBS
SENDING THINGS
THE APPROPRIATE SPORT THEY PLAYED
NOT JUST DESSERTS
MYTHOLOGICAL MISTAKES
THE ANIMA”LL” KINGDOM
Josh got off to a slow start; Heather had $1,800 and Kristin $1,400 before Josh even got in on the buzzer once! Joshua recovered nicely in PROVERBS and NOT JUST DESSERTS, though, to have the lead after 15 clues! Scores at the first break:
Joshua $3,200
Kristin $3,000
Heather $2,800
Joshua admitted to being afraid of snakes! While Alex tried to convince him on the merits of them, Joshua was only “I’ll take your word for it”. Good for him.
Joshua and Heather traded correct responses coming out of the break, but once Kristin got in, the next clue she selected was the round’s Daily Double (under MYTHOLOGICAL MISTKES $600). Scores:
Joshua $4,600
Heather $4,600
Kristin $3,400
Kristin bet $1,600. Her clue: When this Gorgon got mad at Athena for refusing a request, Athena made her ugly & turned her hair into snakes. Her correct response put her up to $5,000!
Joshua did the best in SENDING THINGS, getting 3 of the 5 clues there, leading to scores after 30 clues of:
Joshua $6,800
Kristin $6,000
Heather $5,600
DJ! round categories:
WOMEN AUTHORS
A LITTLE “BRO”MANCE
PENINSULAS
INTERNATIONAL TV TITLES
NON-BRITISH ROYALS
FABRICS
This round was pretty much all the Joshua and Heather show; Kristin got in on the buzzer twice the entire round! (One was a $2,000 neg, the other was a $1,200 get).
Heather got off to the hot start, building her score up to $12,000 by the end of WOMEN AUTHORS, but it was Joshua who played the first Daily Double (after Heather switched out of INTERNATIONAL TV TITLES to go back to WOMEN AUTHORS). The Daily Double was at TV $1200 though! Scores at this point:
Heather $12,000
Joshua $8,000
Kristin $6,000
Joshua bet $6,000 on this one! His clue: In Germany this show had “Die Reitungs-schwimmer von Malibu” as part of its title. His correct response put him to $14,000 and into the lead!
Both Heather and Joshua took some negs through the middle of the round which prevernted them both from being able to pull away here! When Joshua switched back into PENINSULAS, the final Daily Double was waiting for him at $1600! Scores at this point were:
Heather $17,200
Joshua $16,800
Kristin $5,200
Betting $3,200, his clue was delivered by Kelly of the Clue Crew: I’m in Singapore, riding the world’s largest observation wheel; from the top you can see parts of this peninsula that has Asia’s southernmost mainland point. His correct response put him to $20,000 (and his get on $2,000 to follow put him at $22,000).
Josh didn’t ring in at all in NON-BRITISH ROYALS, and Heather didn’t get in on enough clues to get back into the lead! Scores going into Final:
Joshua $22,000
Heather $20,000
Kristin $5,200
Final Jeopardy! category: THE GRAMMYS
FJ! clue: Of the more than 75 competitive categories, this one does not cite the title of any album, song or other project
Kristin 5200 – 4100 = 1100
Heather 20000 – 2001 = 17999
Joshua 22000 – 1994 = 20006
Bit of a risky proposition for Joshua there (this is code for ‘I absolutely hated his bet’), but for some reason, the luck was in his favour here, as he wins his fourth game! He now has $69,611 in winnings.
If Joshua loses tomorrow, his 4-day total of $69,611 qualifies him for the Tournament of Champions. If he wins, however, he will not play until the following tournament! So, I won’t post the current standings until after tomorrow’s game.
I’ll be back with tomorrow’s recap, see you then!
