Rob defeated Drew Horwood on Friday. Can he make it two?
Rob found the first Daily Double today, in Pan Am. Mr. Trebek said “We have quite a match underway.” I don’t know; it was just kinda there for me! Rob had gotten 4 right and had 1800. Joshua too had gotten 4 right and had 2000. Rayma had gotten 3 right and one wrong and had 1200. Rob wagered 1000 on this clue: “Pan Am founder Juan Trippe called many of his planes these evoking the fast but lavish sailing ships of the 1800s.” I got this one at the last second, thanks to a memorable scene from “Little Man Tate.” Unfortunately I couldn’t find a, um…clip, though that would’ve been really cool and I really tried. Rob got this one right too. This was the last clue before the first break.
I was a little surprised Rayma wasn’t asked to be more specific on this clue in Pan Am: “Before Air Force One, Pan Am took this man on the first presidential flight, to the Casablanca Conference.” It seems like they always ask, even if it’s obvious.
Rob beat Rayma to this clue in Skyscrapers, even though she’s from this city: “This city has 5 buildings higher than its Space Needle, the Columbia Center being the tallest.”
At the end of the round, Rob had 4200 (5 right and one wrong), Rayma had 2400 (3 right and 2 wrong) and Joshua had 3200 (3 right).
Rob found the first Daily Double in Double Jeopardy today. He had gotten one right in the round so far and had 4600. Joshua had gotten one right also, and had 3600. Rayma still had 2400. Rob wagered 2000 on this clue: “Located about 1,000 miles south of Cairo, it rose on the site of an Egyptian army camp in 1821.” Rob got it.
Joshua found the next one in All About Authors. He seemed to be looking for it, because he dove to a 1600 clue. He’d gotten one right since Rob’s Daily Double and had 4800. Rob had gotten one right and had 7000. Rayma still had 2400. Joshua wagered 2000 on this clue: “A narrator in this French author’s multivolume work says, ‘The materials of my work consisted of my own past.'” For some reason I thought we were still in 4-letter words, and I guessed “Hugo.” Joshua thought they wanted the name of the work, so he was wrong too.
There was one clue left covered at the end of the round. Rob finished it with 10200 (3 right since Joshua’s Daily Double). Rayma had 11600 (7 right). Joshua had 7 right and 2 wrong, and had 9600. The Final Jeopardy category was Songs. Here’s the clue: “This U.S. ceremonial song was written in 1811 about the head of a Scottish clan, not an American leader.” I got this one instantly. Joshua left his screen blank, which surprised me. Worse, he lost 9400. It’s too bad because I’d have thought he looked pretty strong for future episodes. Rob got it right and added 9001. Rayma got it right too, and only added 600! [facepalm] That’s all I have to say about that. So Rub lucked out, and we’ll see him again tomorrow.
