  The statement was long and complex, but it was clear that they were looking for the name of the whiskey and not the name of the cola.

    The answer was not “clearly wrong”, especially considering the judges’ ruling disagrees with your statement.

    You may not agree with the ruling, but it certainly was not “clearly wrong” by any stretch of the imagination.

      It was not an “either or” question. Clear logic shows that the answer was wrong. Alex and the judges are not infallible.

        The judges have shown over the past 34 years that they do not accept “clearly wrong” answers.

        It is obvious that the judges felt that there was enough information on Betsy’s screen to grant her credit for a correct response.

        Whether one agrees with that ruling can be a matter of debate, but by no circumstances was Betsy’s response “clearly wrong”. Stating so is incredibly disrespectful to Betsy (as it casts aspersions on the outcome of the game and thus her title as champion) and future calls to this end will be ruled in violation of this site’s Comment Policy.

        You would be better served making your own argument rather than arguing that the judges don’t make mistakes. There have been times that they have corrected themselves and righted a wrong. Betsy was an exceptional contestant.

        It is your opinion that she missed Final Jeopardy.

        That opinion is not universally held.

        It is clear (at least to me) that the opinion of the judges was that because “Crown Royal” was on her screen, that she had enough information to be credited with a correct response.

        I can’t personally talk to the writers or the judges to get their exact opinion because that would torpedo my contestant eligibility. So I have to make assumptions based on how they rule and “figure it out”.

        But do know that an accusation of “she was wrong” implies that her win in this episode is in doubt, and that is 100% unequivocally not a position that I will allow anyone to take on this website. Go back to my interview with Buzzy Cohen where he talks about the most disappointing part of his run, and you’ll see why I take that stance now.

    You’re right that “What is Crown Royal” was the only correct response if a strict reading of the clue was to be followed. I wondered if “What is Royal Crown” would be accepted as the contestants were writing. Alex cleared it up by saying both would be accepted before any responses were revealed.
