If Krishna happens to win today, that will set up a rematch of one of the quarterfinals (an occurrence not quite unique in Jeopardy! history, but still rare in of itself!)
J! round categories: CITIZENSHIP, PLAY SETTINGS, HE’S QUITE THE SPORTSMAN, WHEN IN THE WORLD?, CLOTHES MAKE THE IDIOM, and CARS AND AMERICA (presented by Vice President Joe Biden)
After rolling through IDIOM and PLAY SETTINGS and a couple of Biden’s car clues, we reached the first Daily Double right before the opening break. Krishna got it, holding $1200 to Rose’s $2200 and Kevin’s $2800. His clue: “Newly elected U.S. Senators and Congressmen are sworn in on the 3rd of this month”. Sadly, Krishna gave the wrong month, leading to his score being $0 at the first break.
I was quite impressed that arugula was not mentioned in today’s interviews!
A triple stumper (under CITIZENSHIP $800): Politics calling? This is the minimum age to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. Both Kevin and Krishna took negs, and Rose was afraid to venture a guess…
We didn’t quite get to the last Joe Biden clue; maybe if they were read faster, we’d get to them? At the end of the J! round, Rose held a slim lead with $4,600, Kevin had $4,400 and Krishna $2,600.
After the break, Alex came back onto announce that the show itself had some technical difficulties, and apparently the picture of Eli Manning failed to show up on the $200 HE’S QUITE THE SPORTSMAN clue. Kevin was refunded the $200 on the guess he took, to tie him for the lead with Rose.

Right after retaking the lead, Kevin got to the round’s first Daily Double, under the $1600 clue in Biology. Rose had $5,400 and Krishna $3,000. Kevin bet $2000 of his $6,200. The clue: Canavanine, produced by some plants, is a special one of these acids; it messes up proteins in insects’ bodies. Sadly, most -ine acids are of a specific type, and they weren’t the ones that Kevin gave, so his score fell to $4,200.
The miss also seemed to derail Kevin’s buzzer mojo, as he didn’t ring in for a long time after this, leading Rose and Krishna to take off into the lead. Kevin was in a late charge, however, when he got to the game’s final Daily Double under THE SILENT MOVIE ERA $1200. Scores as follows:

(Amazingly, I’d read this fact yesterday while researching trivia questions for my pub quizzes and almost put this in a game. Now, I’m rather glad I didn’t.)
