The 21st century Malala is Malala Yousafzai, who was the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate when she won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize, along with Kailash Satyarthi.
The 19th century Malala is Malalai of Maiwand, who rallied local fighters against British troops at the 1880 Battle of Maiwand. While she died in that battle, her words spurred her Afghan warriors on to victory in that battle. She also is known in some areas as the “Afghan Molly Pitcher”.
