One question I’ve been seeing a lot of on the Internet recently: Why did the Teen Tournament start on a Wednesday?

The simple answer: The calendar. Election Day is November 8; Thanksgiving is November 24. Both days see Jeopardy! pre-empted in a number of markets. Because November is an important television ratings month (known as “sweeps”), Jeopardy! often schedules tournaments during sweeps. However, in order to make sure that a high-profile event doesn’t face wholesale preemptions, Jeopardy! needs to fit the tournament in between Election Day and Thanksgiving. Thankfully, the calendar and the tournament format allows for 10 episodes to squeeze in very nicely between November 9 and November 22 (the finals taking place on November 21 and 22).

Correct me if I’m reading this wrong, but I’m not sure I’m comfortable with other people’s communications posted as comments on this site.

  3. When Jeopardy! is preempted in my area, I watch the show’s episodes online.

  4. Andy, I respect your opinion that you’re not sure if you’re not comfortable with other people’s communications as posted on this website, but I already sent Porter an Email message and I am not speaking of this anymore.
