Here’s tonight’s Final Jeopardy answer and question for Friday, December 9, 2016:

Final Jeopardy! category: WORLD CAPITALS

Final Jeopardy! clue/answer: Ruled at times by Persians, Mongols & Russians, Baku is the only capital that borders this body of water

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s contestants:

Lara Croft, an aquatic veterinarian from Orlando, Florida
Jim Yulman, a retired lawyer and software developer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Tim Aten, an editor from Vermilion, Ohio (5-day total: $79,299)

Tim made it into #8 on our ToC Tracker with yesterday’s win. He’d need a really big win today (almost $58,000) to pass Pranjal Vachaspati at #7.

You’ve probably heard the news by this point about upcoming contestant Cindy Stowell. Remember to watch on December 13. Her friends and family will also appreciate donations on her behalf to the Cancer Research Institute.

What is the Caspian Sea?

Today’s Jeopardy! results will go up on this page late afternoon, with full stats early evening. They will be seen in the comments section at the bottom of this page.

Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, has played host to a number of major events over the past few years, including the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest, and the 2016 European Grand Prix. It is also the largest city on the Caspian, the lowest-lying national capital in the world, and the most populous city in the world located below sea level (at an altitude of 92 feet below sea level).
