Today’s Final Jeopardy – November 8, 2018

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Historic Leaders) for Quarterfinal #2 of the 2018 Teen Tournament on Thursday, November 8, 2018 (Season 35, Episode 44):

One of his many horses was named Roitelet & was ridden on the way home from Russia in 1812

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s contestants:

Caleb Richmond, a sophomore from Bedford, New Hampshire

Isabella Pagano, a freshman from Libertyville, Illinois
Isabella Pagano on Jeopardy!
Rotimi Kukoyi, a freshman from Hoover, Alabama
Rotimi Kukoyi on Jeopardy!

One thing I’ve been seeing a bit of on the Internet is people wondering why the tournament started on a Wednesday. It’s because of the calendar. Election Day and Thanksgiving are two of the days where the show sees the most number of pre-emptions across the United States. There are exactly 11 weekdays between Election Day and Thanksgiving this year. Thus, in order to fit the tournament between the two holidays, it needs to start on the Wednesday.

Did you know that you can play trivia daily every weekday with Confetti on Facebook Watch? Canadians can play at 5:30 PM Eastern (link only accessible in Canada) and Americans can play at 9:30 PM Eastern! (U.S. link only accessible in the United States)

More information about Final Jeopardy:

France’s Napoleon Bonaparte was said to have had over 150 horses that he rode, including different ones that he had on his exiles in Elba and Saint Helena. His attempt at an invasion of Russia in 1812 did not go well, especially as winter set in, Napoleon was forced to retreat, and the failed Russian campaign became a turning point in the Napoleonic Wars.

Over a century later, Hitler had the same issues when it came to the Russian winter during World War II.

  1. Emma’s chances to advance at 99.552% are now more pure than Ivory soap.

  2. In the category, “Time to take the S_A_T”, don’t the two underscores indicate that there are one or more letters in each location? One of the responses was “splat”, which has no letters between the A and T. Isabella responded correctly anyway, but it could have caused one or more contestants to respond slightly more slowly…
