Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: The Professors Tournament is done, and Amy Schneider gets to resume her run as a 13-day champion, having won $536,400. Will she make it 14 wins tonight? Erin and Do will have something to say about it. The show was running promos for tonight’s game last week, which means that tonight’s game may well be an interesting one!
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Not only was Torchy Blane the inspiration for the character Lois Lane, famously Clark Kent (Superman)’s co-worker at the Daily Planet in the DC Comics series, the name Lois Lane comes from the name of the actress Lola Lane, who portrayed Blane in the 1938 film Torchy Blane in Panama.

Today’s interviews:
Do has never been to a hockey or football game.
Erin is a 5th-generation teacher.
Amy has a tattoo of Ozma of Oz (Ozma was in the sequels).
Andy’s Thoughts:
- Amy surpasses Jason Zuffranieri and Roger Craig for #8 on the all-time winnings list (including tournaments). Matt Jackson sits #7 at $611,612.
- At 432, Amy passes Jerome Vered for #10 all time in terms of the number of correct responses given on the show.
- Daily Double wagering is much harder than Final Jeopardy wagering, and DD3 was in a tricky situation today, especially with it being at the $2000 level. Hindsight is also 20-20.

Yeah, I don’t see a big problem with Amy’s final DD wager. She made a good FJ wager, which I was glad to see (no big deal if you just round up to the nearest 200 dollars). I was glad for myself after whiffing on the last three FJs! :/ I think I recall reading about Torchy Blane in a Superman history before, but it was the ‘1938’ clue drop that cued me.
So happy to see Amy back and continuing on. Am I the only one who guessed Brenda Starr?
Nope. Torchy. Brenda Starr redhead. That’s where my mind went
.
Your concern is that Amy lost the crush, Andy? Her FJ correct percentage is so high, and the DD was on the $2000 level. Plus she locked the lead heading into FJ (barring any wrong answers on her part). I quite like that wager, actually. Do and Erin wagered nicely as well. The rare well-wagered game!
I like the wagers today made by all the players. Furthermore, speaking of Lois Lane I have seen so much superman movies and cartoons lately that I think there should be more of Lois Lane appearances in the near future. As a fan of Superman, I am hoping everyone will get this one.
Darn, I wasn’t thinking of the rhyme (Blane/Lane) and instantly thought of Brenda Starr.
I also thought Brenda Starr.
1940! I had no idea that Brenda Starr was that old 😲 I always had the idea it started in the 50s :/
Mayim Bialik is introduced as “the host of Jeopardy!” and Ken Jennings is introduced as “hosting Jeopardy!” Why the difference?
Nobody in any official capacity has given any reason for this.
They don’t need to. Res ipsa loquitur.
Personally, I explain it for myself by noting that in a longer form, the introduction could have been “hosting Jeopardy!, a consulting producer of Jeopardy!, Ken Jennings”
