Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Poems) for Wednesday, March 23, 2022 (Season 38, Game 138):
The title of this poem comes from a 1920 book that refers to its possible “restoration to fruitfulness”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s contestants:
Nadège Aoki, a marine biology graduate student from Cambridge, Massachusetts![]() |
Tim McCaigue, an app developer from San Diego, California![]() |
Mihir Nene, an engineer from Rochester, New York (1-day total: $24,999)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts: Mihir Nene won yesterday from third place going into Final Jeopardy after being the only player to get Final; it’s the second day in a row that this happened! Today, he takes on Tim McCaigue and Nadège Aoki; I’m sure that Mihir will hope for his buzzer % to be higher today. If he can improve there, things will look better for him!
PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they are able to, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

The original notes of T.S. Eliot’s famous 1922 poem “The Waste Land” credit Jessie Weston’s 1920 book From Ritual to Romance as the inspiration for the title. (The original consideration for the poem’s title was “He do the Police in Different Voices”).

Game Recap:
Jeopardy! Round categories: It’s All Gucci; Music as of Late; Food & Drink Homophones; Bright Lights; Big City; We Read It in the ’80s
The Daily Double came out early (on Clue 3); Tim picked up $1,000 for it and parlayed that to an early lead after the first break. Coming out of the break, Tim went 3/5 in BRIGHT LIGHTS and 4/5 in MUSIC AS OF LATE to take a commanding $5,200 lead ($8,800 to $3,600) after the opening 30 clues.
Double Jeopardy! Round categories: It Happened In ’22; Science & Nature; Triple the Double Letters; The Body Politic; Woman Movies; Incredibly Elf-Centered
The Daily Doubles came out very late; Nadège found the first one all the way back on clue #19, picking it up for $2,500. However, after that the star of the game was the TRIPLE THE DOUBLE LETTERS CATEGORY, which seemed to flummox the contestants and kill any momentum. Of course, the last Daily Double was there, and Nadège’s dropping $2,000 on it sealed the runaway for Tim. Your scores going into Final saw Tim at $18,800, Mihir at $6,400, and Nadège at $5,900.
Final Jeopardy! today was a Triple Stumper, but things were locked up beforehand; Tim is now a 1-day champion!

Today’s interviews:
Nadège studies coral reefs using acoustics.
Tim had a head injury in Paris and had to take an ambulance.
Mihir lived across the hall from the UConn womens’ basketball team.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- Considering the general struggle that everyone was having on TRIPLE THE DOUBLE LETTERS, I’m okay with Nadège’s small bet, doing just over the minimum required to ensure that Tim didn’t have a runaway if she was correct.
- I only bring this up because she has alluded to this on Twitter: Ciara, one of tomorrow’s challengers, was pronounced by Johnny Gilbert like “Keira”.

Nadège: Bet between $1,001 and $4,899 in order to win a Double Stumper with Mihir.

I played FJ from the Jeopardy site. I came up with the answer after thought, but it took 45-60 seconds. This one could play tough — I’ll look forward to seeing how the contestants do.
I’m guessing that only one of them gets FJ right.
Meh 🫤 Something made me think of Eliot, but I couldn’t come up with a title. Poetry is another weak spot for me 😑
Current FJ streak: 1L
I was surprised COFFEE PRESS was ruled unacceptable for the Triple Double Letter category.
Can anyone figure out why COFFEE MILL was deemed right but PRESS was not?
The clue read: “In 2 words, it grinds the beans to make your morning joe”
As someone who uses both a coffee mill and a coffee press every morning to make his coffee, I can assure you that if I attempted to use my coffee press to grind beans, I will not have a particularly successful morning.
