Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, November 25, 2022

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the November 25, 2022, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category States & The Census) for Friday, November 25, 2022 (Season 39, Game 55):

The 2020 Census gave Montana a second U.S. House seat; its most populous county, this one that attracts tourists, grew 11%

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Holly Smith, a writer & editor originally from Toledo, Ohio
Holly Smith on Jeopardy!
Sam Papuha, a graduate student from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Sam Papuha on Jeopardy!
Cris Pannullo, a customer success operations manager from Ocean City, New Jersey (14-day total: $487,923)
Cris Pannullo on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Yesterday, Cris Pannullo put up his most dominating performance thus far, adding over $70,000 to his total. Today, your challengers are Canadian Sam Papuha and Holly Smith.

Today is going to be interesting in terms of preemptions. ABC is broadcasting college football nearly all day, and CBS is running college football during the day. FOX is broadcasting World Cup during the day and the UCLA-Cal game in the late afternoon/early evening. You’ll notice I didn’t say NBC. If you’re in the Tupelo, Mississippi area today, you’re in luck, as NBC is the only network without preemptions today, and WTVA gets the first airing today—at 1:30 PM Eastern. Other areas in luck today include St. Louis, Minneapolis, Austin, Oklahoma City, Pittsburgh, and Detroit. At least Sam, up in Edmonton, won’t be pre-empted.

I also don’t know when today’s results will be posted here on the site; I’m hoping for some point in the afternoon, but there’s a chance that they won’t be posted until as late as 7:20 PM Eastern.

PSA: The best way to keep COVID-19 at bay (and keep Jeopardy! producing new episodes) is for everybody to get their vaccinations as soon as they can, including any boosters as recommended. When wearing a mask, please ensure that your mask covers both your nose and your mouth.

Yellowstone County (county seat Billings) is the most populous county in Montana; while Yellowstone National Park is mostly in Wyoming, the park does extend into Montana and Idaho. The northeast entrance to Yellowstone National Park is about 100 miles from Billings, Montana. It is generally believed that both Yellowstone National Park and Yellowstone County are named after the area’s Yellowstone River (one of the major tributaries of the Missouri River).

Cris wasn’t quite as dominant today; firstly, the Daily Double came out immediately. Secondly, Holly and Sam got in a few times. Cris’ lead was just under $5,000 after 30 clues.

Cris was still doing great on the signaling device, but Holly got to one of the Daily Doubles (unfortunately, she couldn’t get a correct response and fell back to $0.) Sam’s momentum was derailed by missing the last S on Arby’s slogan, “We have the meats”, and Cris found the last one very late, and went conservative. Going into Final, the scores were Cris $26,400, Sam $5,200, and Holly $3,200.

Statistics after Double Jeopardy:

Cris 34 correct 4 incorrect
Sam 8 correct 1 incorrect
Holly 9 correct 2 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 12 (0 today).

Cris was the only correct player today in Final, and he went very big on his wager. He’s crossed over the half-million mark in just 15 wins! He’ll go for win #16 on Monday!

21 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, November 25, 2022"

  1. In Chicago, Jeopardy won’t be aired at its normal time of 3:30 central time.

    • Did it air in the early hours of Saturday, or, on ABCChicago’s digital subchannel? I seen that college football would prempt Jeopardy Friday, but didn’t check for later airings.

  2. Michael Johnston | November 25, 2022 at 10:28 am |

Dang 🙁 I knew Billings was the largest city, and so figured its county was also the most populous, but didn’t know what the name of it was. That gives me a losing record for this week ;p

    Current FJ streak: 2L

  3. Not having any knowledge of Montana counties I threw out Yellowstone and it stuck. Predicting a triple get.

  4. It was easy to guess with multiple clues built in.

Since the clue refers to re-districting, there was some interesting consequence to the addition of the new second district. In the OTHER district, MT-01, the Democrats were surprisingly competitive and kept the GOP candidate below 50%.

  5. Though it had no effect on the game, a late clue on Nicaragua’s flag asked Cris to be more specific on his initial response of What Are the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Aren’t the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean two different bodies of water?

    • The Caribbean Sea is technically part of the Atlantic Ocean; there was no issue with that prompt. Especially as Nicaragua itself considers itself to be on the Atlantic.

  6. In Boston if something is going on to preempt Jep on CBS it is shown at the same time on MeTV channel 38 or 38.1 if you’re watching over the air without cable.

    • I’m not near Boston, but thanks for the suggestion anyway! More of us need options like that, so I’m going to explore my over-the-air options for the future, just in case. Unfortunately, I don’t think I can get much in my part of the country (South Carolina) due to lots of tall trees surrounding us (We even have trouble getting cell phone signals).

      • When I lived in the Nashville (TN) area we used to have the tree problem that prevented us from getting one of the OTA channels and we could only get ABC in the winter when the leaves were off the trees. But if we were able to get the primary channel (the ‘.1’) of a station, we would be able to see the alternates [CBS had 8 of them!]. I always thought when they were pre-empting something on the primary channel they should air it on one of their other channels, but they never did. It is interesting to me that other stations do do that.

  7. I’ve seen few recent comments about the continued great performance of the current champion, Cris! But I’m still enjoying his consistently great play, and just trying to see how many of the responses I can get before he answers, although it’s helpful when he pauses to think before answering.
One of my pet peeves is how visuals of the clue are removed from the viewers’ sight prematurely. It doesn’t help viewers trying to answer the same questions in “real time” (as real as it gets at home!), and it’s especially annoying in clues that are anagrams or other plays on the letters in the clue. And when the full name of the category is not visible, much of the full context of the clue is lost, especially when contestants are jumping around the board in their selections. It seems there could be a better way of including home viewers in the game with a little more thought.

    • Pizza Face Fred | November 26, 2022 at 12:36 pm |

I like how Ken repeats the category before reading the Daily Double clues because I’d forget half the time . . .

  8. I liked Laurie’s comment about Me TV out of Boston, I receive reception out of Milwaukee and thought Me Tv was for Milwaukee. I am glad I can switch between channels to see both since I have DVR. Me Tv is a Chicago company that is nation wide

    • Weigel Broadcasting (MeTV,H&I,etc.,) is the dominant player in themed “classic tv” digital subchannels. It’s various “networks” are carried nationwide as “subchannels” of broadcast network affiliates, and, independents.

  9. As Kathy S. commented above, in Chicago, Jeopardy (and, Wheel) were prempted by college football in it’s regular time slot.
Though seemingly in Friday’s game Cris wasn’t quite as dominant as in Thursda’s game, he still ruled.
On the Final Jeopardy, if one knows that Yellowstone National Park is in Montana, that leads you to the correct response. Unfortunately I didn’t.

  10. FYI Chicago ABC 7 DID air Jeopardy the next morning in the early slot. I had recorded it.
