Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Today is quarterfinal #3 of the High School Reunion Tournament. The first two games have been won by the players who advanced the farthest in their respective tournaments. If that holds, that would mean Autumn Shelton, who was a semifinalist in 2018, is the favorite to advance. The prediction model does think that Sreekar is a very strong player, though, and actually favors Sreekar very slightly today. I’m expecting to see a very tightly-contested matchup today.

The Chamorro people are believed to have arrived in the Marianas Islands, including Guam, c. 2000 B.C.; While both are now U.S. territories, Guam and the rest of the Northern Mariana Islands are separate territories due to Spain ceding the areas to different countries at the end of the 19th century; Guam went to the U.S. while the Northern Mariana Islands went to Germany (and then Japan after World War I). The rift between the islands caused by the Japanese occupation, especially during World War II, is one major reason why they have yet to reunify.
“But Andy, why are the Northern Mariana Islands not also a correct response to this clue if the Chamorro is also a major group on the Northern Mariana Islands?”, you may ask. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the largest ethnic group in the Northern Mariana Islands is not Chamorro (12,001), but Filipino (15,456). Meanwhile, on the U.S. territory of Guam, the largest ethnic group is Chamorro, with 32% of the total island population being Chamorro, compared to 29.1% Filipino.

Sreekar had the best opening round; the only clue after which he didn’t hold the lead was clue #2. (Autumn got clue #2 correct.) His bet of $3,000 on the first Daily Double led to some regret, openly wishing he’d bet more. He had a commanding lead after 30 clues, though.

Sreekar got the Daily Double correct, betting $7,000, but then ceded control to Stephanie, who doubled up on hers to bring herself close to breaking Sreekar’s runaway. By the end of Double Jeopardy!, an incorrect response in TV SWITCHEROO from Sreekar, rebounded by Stephanie, meant that everything was still to play for in Final! Scores going into Final were Sreekar at $25,800, Stephanie at $14,400, and Autumn at $4,200.

Yeah, knowing it had to be in the Pacific narrowed it down. I didn’t know the demographic numbers. I just picked Guam because it was the more populous.
Lucky guess today. Chose a territory and was correct.
First thing that popped into my head as I was reading the clue and, since I couldn’t, quickly, come up with any of the other territories, I got lucky today.
Seemed like the obvious answer and when I overthink things I usually get them wrong because my original answer was right. Did you know that Guam is where Guambo came from … that may be made up.
I figured it had to be either Guam or American Samoa.
The obvious choice was Guam, which I covered in Around the World Trivia in the Islands category. I would not have chosen the American Samoa. Congrats to stephanie!
heaing/reading the clue for this Final Jeopardy, almost immediately said “what is Guam?”
for some reason didn’t even think of American Samoa. don’t know if it was initutive,or, lucky. will just take the win.
Unless I’m remembering wrong, I think each semifinalist thus far has been the only player to get Final correct out of their group of quarterfinalists. Wonder how long that’s gonna be the case

Great comeback by Stephanie, starting with her DD where she went all in. Up to that point, Sreekar had been dominant. Games like this are what make Jeopardy exciting. Suspense to the end!
I don’t understand what happened with the betting in this game.
There’s a section above, “Final Jeopardy! Wagering Suggestions”. Coupled with the “Wagering Strategy 101” section of this site, everything was pretty much spot on standard Final Jeopardy strategy in this game.
