Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Last week, Utkarsh Ambudkar picked up 37 correct (including Final Jeopardy) and found himself advancing to the first semifinal of this season’s Celebrity Jeopardy! competition. Tonight, one of Timothy Simons (Jonah on Veep), Lisa Ann Walter (Melissa on Abbott Elementary), and Brian Baumgartner (Kevin on The Office) will be joining him.
Like last week, none of these three players have any Jeopardy! experience, so it might be a little bit difficult to predict matters. I think that it’ll be a fun hour, regardless!

Andy’s Thoughts:
- I enjoyed this episode. I especially was happy to see Lisa Ann win, knowing how much the show has meant to her, especially watching with her mom all these years.
- Tim’s confusion as to what “True Daily Double” meant will certainly make it into my Questionist recap this weekend.
- Today’s box score: October 4, 2023 Celebrity Jeopardy! Box Score.

Since Jeopardy! is the only regular network TV show I watch, I had never even heard of these celebrities.
With all due respect, that’s on you, Gary.
These celebs are absolutely at least on the same level as Andrew Shue, Emma Samms, Dean Stockwell, Alan Rachins, Steven Weber, and Judith Ivey. (For what it’s worth, those six were all on the initial November 1992 celebrity shows.)
And Jeopardy! is not even a regular network TV show as it is syndicated to whatever stations win the bids to air it. [Celebrity Jeopardy! is aired by a Network (ABC) but I’m not sure that it could be called a “regular show”.]
Timothy Simons is most known for Veep, a cable show rather than a network TV show, and best I can tell he has not been a regular on any network TV show (and maybe not even a guest except as a voice actor on animated shows). However, Lisa Ann Walter plays one of the main characters on the best sitcom currently on network TV! (Not just my opinion, it has won over 40 awards so far, including a Peabody!)
I have heard others call statements like Gary’s “humble brags”, in other words a camouflaged put down of those who do recognize these celebrities because they do watch network TV. Who did he expect to see on Celebrity Jeopardy!, Tom Cruise? Tom Brady? Nancy Pelosi? George Clooney? Anthony Fauci? Carl Icahn? Robert Redford? Warren Buffett? David Blaine? Adele? Drake? Banksy?
Though I may not have heard of some these celebrity playerw, I presume that they were invited, not just because they may be a “name” in their field, but also because of their intelligence, and, personalities. Both of which are important when players are selecteed for “regular” Jeopardy.
I categorize this Final Jeopardy as “easier.” If one listened, read the answe, then you’d have a good idea what the correct reponse would be. I didn’t know that the bell Big Ben was also cracked like the Liberty Bell, or, that it weighs 14 tons. But the part of the answer “still sounds it’s disinctive ‘bong’ evry hour” gave it to me.
Question, was it just the clockwork that operates the clock that Big Ben is incorporated into, or, everything, clockwork, face, and, bells that recenty finished being repaired?
I did a bit of Googling, and, answered my own question. It appears that the ENTIRE Parliament Tower clock, which includes the famous bell Big Ben, underwent restoration, and, repair. Returning to service, Novemeber of last year.
So the Final Jeopardy answer, as written, was incomplete
