Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Iconic Brands) for Monday, November 13, 2023 (Season 40, Game 46):
In 1916 it began packaging its flagship product in a variety of glass called Georgia green

Stuart Crane, a product line manager from Kalispell, Montana![]() |
Emily Fiasco, a middle school band director from St. Louis, Missouri![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
As we enter into Week 10 of Season 40 of Jeopardy!, we move into the 10th week of strike replacement programming as the Champions Wildcard Clubs bracket continues.
Today’s game features one of the 2022 Tournament of Champions alternates in Emily Fiasco facing off against a pair of 1-day champions: Stuart Crane from February 2021 and Fred Nelson from December 2020. On its surface, this seems like the sort of matchup that Emily would do well with, and I think she will—even moreso if Game 3 Emily (the Emily with the $25,000 Coryat) comes out for this game.

Worried about imitators trying to kneecap its market share, the Coca-Cola Company, in the mid-1910s, put out a design contest amongst its bottlers to develop a “bottle so distinct that you would recognize by feel if in the dark or lying broken on the ground. The Root Glass Company of Terre Haute, Indiana, won the contest after being inspired by a drawing of a cocoa bean, and the distinctive bottle holding Coca-Cola was born. The glass was green due to the copper and minerals found in the sand of the Terre Haute area used to make the glass; the color was originally called German green, but was renamed to Georgia Green in homage to Coca-Cola’s headquarters.
This feels like a relatively straightforward Final Jeopardy clue to me—but as I have said numerous times, Final Jeopardy sometimes being at this difficulty level is important as it keeps the contestants betting to win the game, as opposed to betting not to lose.

Double Jeopardy! Round:
(Categories: The Ottoman Empire; Whose Line Is It Anyway?; City Museums; Say Cheese!; Life Science; From The Italian)
Fred had a much better time on the signalling device on Double Jeopardy, but his indifference towards the Daily Doubles (picking 3 $400 clues before finding the first one and going back to the same category after finding the first one) gave Stuart an opening that was very much capitalized on; a second True Daily Double from Stuart made things incredibly close going into Final Jeopardy.
Statistics after Double Jeopardy:
Fred 21 correct 3 incorrect
Stuart 16 correct 4 incorrect
Emily 16 correct 1 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 0 (0 today).
Scores going into Final:
Fred $23,000
Stuart $20,400

Andy’s Thoughts:
- Newfoundland rhymes with “understand”. Alex Trebek always pronounced it properly; I wish Ken (and Mayim) would do the same.
- Today’s box score: November 13, 2023 Box Score.
Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Fred $23,000 Stuart $20,400 Emily $11,000)
Emily: You’re in a tough spot here. If Fred bets to cover Stuart and is incorrect, he falls to $5,199. Thus, a bet of $5,800 or less keeps you ahead for that Double Stumper. However, doing so leaves you vulnerable to a small bet from Stuart. So, either $5,800 or less, or at least $7,800, is defensible here. (Actual bet: $4,347)
Stuart: If you want to bet small, a cover bet over Emily would be $1,601. However, Fred did not make the cover bet in a close game last time; that in of itself might be very good reason to go all in here. (Actual bet: $20,400)
Fred: Standard cover bet over Stuart is $17,801. (Actual bet: $17,801)

When I saw the category I bet all of my money. Luckily for me I drank a lot of Coca-Cola from those green bottles growing up!
It feels like we’ve been getting a lot of reminders about the Georgia/Coca-Cola connection lately.
Was easy (for me) once I thought what Georgia company packages it’s product in glass.
Way too easy, triple get. Apple pie, mom and Coca Cola.
Too easy for me, I went to the factory that makes coca cola in georgia back in august 2016 and gosh I really want to go back there again. Good to see a triple get today.
Georgia was a big hint, but I couldn’t get the image of Rolling Rock out of my mind. Luckily I know that’s from PA.
It annoys me when Ken waits so long to rule and the contestants are allowed to modify their answers as Stuart did in the “auto man” category. He only gave one name, long pause, Ken started to rule and he added the second name.
With all due respect, a host pause could also be seen as an implied “Be more specific”—which it very likely was in this case.
Andy; in regards to the correct way to pronounce Newfoundland, Americans of my generation weren’t taught to pronounce things like the “natives” did. You and Alex, being Canadians. grew up knowing the correct way to pronounce Newfoundland, Quebec, and, etc.
Final Jeopardy, if you have ever drank Coke from a glass bottle (and, how many from the younger generations can say that they have?) then the key to the correct response was “Georgia Green Glass.” Georgia for the state where Coke is headquartered (as Andy pointed out, and, green for the tint of the “iconic” glass bottle
Obvious clue was obvious. I predicted a triple get immediately despite usually not expecting one (I’ve seen people predict a triple get only for it to be a triple stumper), because there was nothing else that could fit. Green glass bottles (probably meant to invoke Coke’s original green color) make it easy, but “beverage bottler from Georgia” made it even easier.
However, I didn’t know that the color had its name changed because of WWI. Quite fascinating!
Great game and rather surprised how these 2 took it to Emily. She ended up making the perfect bet though. I almost screwed this up and went with Mars for M & M’s, but then remembered that Coke’s headquarters was Georgia and barely got it right. Yikes!
