Are you looking for today’s US Jeopardy recap? Find that here!

Warning: This page may contain spoilers for the January 25, 2024 game of Jeopardy! UK, especially for those of you watching delayed or on-demand. This page will be updated during each commercial break as the show airs.

Today’s contestants:

Archi Campbell, a lawyer from Greenwich
Archi Campbell on Jeopardy! UK
Caroline Latham, a retired teacher from Romford
Caroline Latham on Jeopardy! UK
Dean Strachan, an economist from Southgate (1-day total: £2,275)
Dean Strachan on Jeopardy! UK

Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:

After a savvy bet yesterday on a Triple Stumper Final Jeopardy clue, Dean Strachan returns as champion, though I’m sure Emma Laslett is just fine with having won £10,999 herself over her three victories! Today, though, in the penultimate game of this series, Dean faces off against Caroline Latham of Romford and Archi Campbell of Greenwich! Caroline does have reasonably good stats in both OQL and QLL, so it wouldn’t surprise me whatsoever if she had a strong performance in this game today!

Another reminder that I have started a Sunday mailbag column where I answer fan & viewer questions regarding the show. If you have a question, feel free to send it to mailbag@thejeopardyfan.com!

12 Comments on "Jeopardy! UK Game Recap – Thursday, January 25, 2024"

  1. Are the final jeopardy wagers actually in real time or do they give them a few minutes to figure out a wager I wonder. Making a final jeopardy wager on the fly can certainly be stressful and wagering mistakes might happen.

    • I’m hoping that one of the former contestants who have been lurking here can provide some further insight as to the procedure.

As of now, I assume that there is a lot of editing that makes a number of minutes look like a few seconds.

      • Back in the late ’90s, they gave us a couple of minutes (don’t know the exact time, but it was ample), once the category had been revealed. I can’t imagine they’ve changed that. Could be different in England though!?
In any event, Dean’s bet was Almost Clavin-esque!

        • With all due respect, this is a question about the British version and specifically this production. It’s really a question that needs to be answered by someone who participated in these 20 episodes.

          • Andy, I agree that there’s no guarantee that the procedures are the same, but you said “former contestant” not “former British contestant” so.. Anyways, sorry about the miscommunication!

      • I was on episode 12 of this series (the peak of Michael’s bulldozing run, sadly for me) and he took a good couple of minutes each episode with provided pen and paper to make sure he had the correct bet. There didn’t seem to be any actual time limit imposed so there would’ve been opportunity for Dean to do that if he wanted it.

  2. David Bradburn | January 25, 2024 at 1:23 pm |

Did I imagine it or was the answer to ‘in which country is Chester’ given as Wales. Surely it’s in England.

  3. Maths errors are usually just the need for the $1/£1 (and occasionally whether to add or subtract the “1”). I assume that Dean rounded up to £4,000 to make for a quicker and easier subtraction from Archi’s max of £4,800 then did remember the £1 but forgot to add back in the amount he had rounded up (£50) possibly when concentrating on whether to add or subtract the £1.

  4. Being a non-smoking, non-world-traveling [except Canada] American, I had little chance of knowing the required FJ! date. However, knowing the frequency that American Jeopardy! has Final clues related to current events from about 3-6 months earlier, I thought maybe there had been some public media notice of a 20-yr anniversary last year, so guessed 2003. Given 23 years to choose from, I guess being 4 years off wasn’t TOO bad 😉. As Matt said, “years are very difficult to get dead on” (but especially if you have no idea).

However, since they have probably been prepping the first season of this UK Jeopardy! for a while longer than each new season of American Jeopardy! gets to prepare, perhaps in 2022 there was a 15-yr noting of the 2007 ban and this really was a case of emulating American Jeopardy! writers by taking “news” from “then current” media publications.

  5. I really enjoy Stephen Fry as a host, but… does it feel to anyone else that after Final Jeopardy, when their names are replaced with their responses/wagers, he’s incapable of remembering their names? Watching him announce Archi as the winner today seemed like he was waiting for someone to shout the name in his ear!
