Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, April 19, 2024

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the April 19, 2024, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Comic Book Characters) for Friday, April 19, 2024 (Season 40, Game 160):

Featured in a 2020 film, she gets her name from a 16th c. Italian stock character who often wore diamond-patterned outfits

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Molly Fitzpatrick, a writer from Queens, New York
Molly Fitzpatrick on Jeopardy!
Scott Nations, a financial engineer & option trader from Chicago, Illinois
Scott Nations on Jeopardy!
Marko Saric, a math professor from Chapel Hill, North Carolina (1-day total: $3,799)
Marko Saric on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Alison Betts’s 5-game win streak was halted last night by a Triple Stumper Final Jeopardy; your new champion is Marko Saric, who comes in having won just $3,799. Today’s challengers are Molly Fitzpatrick and Scott Nations. I’m interested in seeing how Scott does; upon a cursory glance, it appears as though Scott has developed a number of financial strategic models for making money in options trading; I’m curious to see if he chose to try to transfer any of those skills over to Jeopardy! strategy.

Created in the early 1990s as a henchwoman for The Joker, Harley Quinn became known in the DC Animated Universe as The Joker’s love interest. In the DC Extended Universe in the 2010s and 2020s, she is famously portrayed by Margot Robbie and featured in the 2020 film Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn).

The name came as a play on the Harlequin stock character from Italian commedia dell’arte; Harley’s original outfit included many parts of the stock character’s costume, including a jester hat, diamond pattern, and ruffled collar.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Marko $15,900 Scott $11,400 Molly $4,800)

Marko: Standard cover bet over Scott is $6,901. (Actual bet: $6,901)

Scott: Your best chance of winning is if you bet no more than $1,799; this keeps Molly locked out for second and wins if Marko is incorrect. (Actual bet: $6,901)

Molly: If Marko is incorrect, he falls to $8,999. Bet at least $4,200. (Actual bet: $4,798)

15 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, April 19, 2024"

  1. Got that one right away. Some Halloweens ago, I went as The Joker and my lady friend as Harley Quinn. I remember there being a lot of Joker and Harley Quinn costume wearing folks that year including the hosts of the Halloween party we went to.

  2. Guessed wonder woman. “diamond-patterned outfits” hint led me to the stars on her outfit

    • Same, but I know very little about this category. I was hoping they were going to mention Ben Affleck playing one of these superheroes and I would have known that he was Daredevil. I actually did see that movie in 2003.

  3. I didn’t know the Joker connection but I did know the Italian comic character’s outfit. So I said “Harlequin” instead of “Harley Quinn”. Would that have been accepted?

    • Good question. It could technically be phonetically pronounced the same – but being that is a person’s name, I am going to guess no.

  4. The diamond garb popped Dagger from Cloak & Dagger into my head which it turns out did not come out in 2020 and was not a film but a television series.

  5. Katerina E. | April 19, 2024 at 10:36 am |

Ten in a row! But, honestly, for someone who consumed a lot of “Batman: The Animated Series” while in university, this is a slam dunk. I won’t say triple-get though, because I’m not sure how many contestants are going to be well-verses in post-1990 comics/animated shows. Could be a triple stumper.

  6. I thought of Harlequin but guessed Columbine, because she was his love interest in the Harlequinade plays.

  7. bill vollmer | April 19, 2024 at 5:09 pm |

From the description of her classic costume, “Diamond patterned,” I immediately went to Dr. Quinzell, aka, “Harley Quinn.”
Andy, in your explantation of the correct response, you didn’t mention that her popularity from Batman: The Animated Series, lead to her being adapted into comic books, first as the Joker’s “henchwoman,” then as the lead in some “mini-series,” as well as the star of her own TV series.

    • I knew this one right away. I BELIEVE I could have gotten it correct anyway due to recent movies (and the Italian reference), but I definitely got it since it was my daughter’s favorite comic book character when she was a teen.

[There are a lot of dogs named Harley. I’d say most due to this character or “a motorcycle”.]

      • Robert J. Fawkes | April 19, 2024 at 8:24 pm |

Female dogs from Harley Quinn; male dogs from Harley motorcycles. 🙂

With two sons into DC and Marvel, this was too easy.

  8. Not my cup of tea category and guessed Wonder Woman, so I at least had something guessed. 0 for my last 39. This is unreal. I swear to you good folks here that I am not a total moron, but apparently I have been for the past 39 Monday through Friday’s. Guess I will try again next Monday to avoid the great 40 days of Noah! LOL.

Nicely done by Marko in getting win #2. Much more impressive than in Game #1. Retro good luck next week sir!

    • “Retro good luck next week”. What is that supposed to mean?

      • It’s an acknowledgement of the fact that these game are taped (as opposed to live) and thus, any luck/wishes are retroactive to the respective taping day.

        • Exactly! I had never heard it before until I saw some former players say it to a player with games upcoming on TV and I thought it was pretty cool, so I like to use it. 🙂
