Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Flags) for Monday, March 10, 2025 (Season 41, Game 131):
A dark blue square in the upper left corner of the flag of this country represents the continent of Africa
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Sabrina Blanks, a microcrochet artist from Rock Hill, South Carolina![]() |
Harvey Silikovitz, an attorney & worldwide karaoke singer orignally from West Orange, New Jersey![]() |
Laura Faddah, a manager from Memphis, Tennessee (8-day total: $92,599)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Laura Faddah is now an 8-day champion, yet her winnings are under $100,000. There was some discussion in the comments on Friday regarding “negative records”, and it is still editorial policy of The Jeopardy! Fan not to report on negative records in general—it definitely falls under “the fandom in general can no longer have nice things”. I saw this happen numerous times in 2022 where Megan Wachspress’s detractors would use her low winnings total a few years ago as the basis for harassment, and while I harbor no hope of personally being able to stop the harassment of contestants personally at this point, I do at least want to make the job of those harassers more difficult.
Hoping to stop Laura’s win streak at eight today are a pair of challengers with unique introductions: microcrochet artist Sabrina Blanks and worldwide karaoke singer Harvey Silikovitz. If you’ve ever read Claire McNear’s Answers in the Form of Questions, you would have read of Harvey’s long journey to the Alex Trebek Stage; Harvey was one of the contestant hopefuls featured in that book from four and a half years ago. Thus, there will likely be a lot of longtime diehard fans of the show who are hoping that Laura’s win streak ends today at the hands of Harvey. (Interestingly, Harvey isn’t the only one of this week’s contestants I recognized when I looked at this week’s list of players on the show’s website, but I’ll go into more detail later in the week when those players appear on the show.)
In other news in the Jeopardy!-verse, word came out this weekend about some of the changes being made to Series 2 of Jeopardy! in the UK—which might make it even more difficult for the episodes to ever find their way into J! Archive: firstly, the monetary values have changed. Instead of the bottom row clue being worth £150 or £300 as it was in Series 1, that bottom row is now worth £125 or £250. In exchange, though, seven categories will be on each of the three boards. (This now gives me a week to update my stats-tracking spreadsheet to handle the new UK format.) On the plus side, the extra 15 clues a game will likely lead to a faster-paced game and hopefully fewer criticisms of the show’s pacing.

Correct response: What is Liberia?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
From the August 2024 Liberian declaration of Flag Day, “the Liberian Flag consists of six red stripes and five alternating white stripes, totaling eleven stripes, each representing one of the eleven signers of the Declaration of Independence of Liberia; the blue field, in the upper left corner of a rectangular form with a single white star in the center of the blue field, depicting Liberia as the then only independent state on the continent of Africa; the color red symbolizes the blood of those who died in the struggle for independence; the color white indicates the purity of mind of all our fore bearers toward each other; and the Blue for the dark continent of Africa as it was then depicted, the Proclamation further declared.”
I’m honestly not sure how this Final Jeopardy clue is going to play; the way in for someone who doesn’t know this fact would be to remember that the Liberian Flag—by virtue of the country’s history of being founded in the mid-19th century by freed people of color from the United States—is most likely to be similar to an American flag.

Writing this before the results are out: criticisms of Laura seemingly ignore the strategy of understand your weaknesses vs your strengths. Sure her pre-game average is low but a before average player would’ve crumbled long ago. Laura keeps herself out of losing positions and that’s to be commended.
“Before average” What does that mean?
guessing it was a typo for ‘below’
With over 50 countries, I thought this was an impossible question but guessed Liberia because I knew its flag had been modelled on the U.S. flag which meant it at least had a blue square in the top left corner, pretty much like andy’s analysis of the question and answer.
Well, I didn’t KNOW that it had been based on the U.S. flag, but knowing the origin of Liberia, that seemed reasonable, so I also pretty much had done what Andy expected many people would.
I only answered Liberia in desperation. I was searching for a flag with a plain blue square in the corner and could not find any.
Yeah, I’d thought the clue was saying that it was specifically a solid blue square.
Don’t feel as bad about my guess of Madagascar now – thinking of a country that had the ‘mass’ of Africa to it’s upper left.
That was what immediately came to mind for me, too, but then I actually started thinking about it and chose to guess Liberia.
Too bad the contestants couldn’t consult Dr. Sheldon Cooper about this. He could’ve told lectured them, in great detail, about the Liberian flag, and its’ close similarity to the U.S. flag.
Similar thoughts. I did not recall ever having seen Liberia’s flag, but I wondered at the time if maybe I actually had seen it on an episode of ‘The Big Bang Theory’.
Laura’s unlikely streak comes to an end. She lost to a powerhouse, and there is no shame in that.
I knew that Liberia’s flag was similar to the US falg, did not know the symbolism behind it. A blue field in the upper left corner was not enough for me to visualize Liberia’s flag.
Laura tried to come close to Harvey but he was too quick to the buzzer with correct answers. The last chance she possibly had to keep Harvey from running away with the game would have been the second Daily Double in Double Jeopardy. Unfortunately being quick and correct meant Harvey was in charge of the board through most of the round, and, he found DD3, which meant that in order for Laura to continue her winning streak she needed to be right in Final Jeopardy, have wagered stragically, and, hope Harvey didn’t have the correct response, and, to have over bet. Since it was a runaway, Andy doesn’t give wagering suggestions, but I don’t think Harvey over bet.
You’re correct – Harvey’s wager, while big, was still small enough to preserve his runaway. Laura was basically presented the option of “bet really small and guarantee second place” or “bet everything and hope Harvey both misses Final and does something really silly with his wager”.
No wonder Harvey’s nickname in the trivia world is H-Bomb…
Because that was a, quite frankly, explosive performance! 🙂
Did I see James holzhauer briefly in crowd during intro?
There were quite a few J!-famous people in this audience.
thanks
Yes, like Andy said, there were quite a few Jeopardy royalty there. I was there for this taping on January 27th. James was indeed there. Rowan Ward and Michael Cavaliere as well. All very nice people.
This wasn’t too far before the Super Bowl and I asked James….Eagles money line? He replied, well,,,if you believe in conspiracy theories….I told him that I didn’t. I should have bet a chunk on the Eagles to win with no points added on. That was the extent of me bugging James. 🙂
Harvey’s trivia résumé specifically intersected with The Jeopardy! Fan back in the day.
He appeared on Complete The List three times. He was the winner of the very first episode back in 2017. In his second time on the show, he was part of a unique instance in show history — the only category where no player gave a correct response. The next and final time he was on, he went against the other three two-time champs there then were — and achieved another unique distinction by being the only ever CTL fourth-place finisher. In that game, he also was part of a 16-for-16 round.
As for FJ, I got it right! But, I didn’t know it when in studio and thus getting it right today doesn’t count. It just means that somehow I remembered it from taping day. LOL.
That was one great game! Harvey just played one dominant game and it was great to witness. Laura played a great game as well, but just happened to run into a buzz saw.
It was great to hear Harvey tell his story about living with Parkinson’s Disease for the past 5 1/2 years and that he was able to realize his dream about making it onto Jeopardy. 🙂
I liked how Harvey consistently omitted the price when there was only one clue remaining in a category. I hope that catches on.
would the DRC have been an acceptable answer for the flag? characteristics are similar to Liberia…
I would hardly classify their flag as having “a dark blue square”.
