Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Explorers) for Tuesday, March 11, 2025 (Season 41, Game 132):
Traveling in 1811 to an elevation of about 12,000 feet, Thomas Manning was the first Englishman to meet this figure
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
James Corson, a nuclear engineer from Frederick, Maryland![]() |
Emily Johnson, a teacher from Savannah, Georgia![]() |
Harvey Silikovitz, an attorney & worldwide karaoke singer orignally from West Orange, New Jersey (1-day total: $23,600)![]() |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Yesterday’s game saw Harvey Silikovitz take down 8-day champion Laura Faddah after one of the most dominant performances of all time on the signalling device. Harvey—who has already become a near-universal fan favorite, especially after his interview yesterday spoke of his Parkinson’s diagnosis—successfully rang in on 85% of his 40 buzzer attempts during the game. As we enter Game 2, Harvey is rated by the new Unified Prediction Model to have a 72% chance of winning today against challengers Emily Johnson and James Corson. I have always thought that buzzer timing skill is the hardest to maintain from game to game, especially as we haven’t been given the specific timing data from the show’s ELVIS lockout system. (We don’t know if Harvey has the timing nearly down perfectly, or if his opponents yesterday just happened to be consistently slower than Harvey.)

Famous 19th century traveler Thomas Manning became famous for his travels to China and Tibet; he was in demand in China due to his ability to practice medicine. This meant he had few obstacles in his way when traveling; in 1811, he became the first Englishman to enter Lhasa, the famed Tibetan holy city. While in Lhasa, he was granted an audience with the 9th Dalai Lama.

Jeopardy! Round:
(Categories: Chill Beats; Forever Stamps; It’s Hyphenated; 3-Named People; Ripped; From The Headlines)
In an opening segment that I think will surprise a lot of viewers after yesterday, both challengers got off to a good start. James doubled up through the Daily Double and led after 15; the scores at the commercials were James $5,800 Emily $2,800 Harvey $2,400.

Emily keeps injuring her ankles on trips to Spain.
Harvey has karaoked in 78 countries and all 50 U.S. states.
James picked up another 5 correct after the break to extend his lead going into the second break.

Double Jeopardy! Round:
(Categories: State Capitols; Alliterative Books; The Business Of Show; Light Headed; Yikes, You Got A “V” In Math; Forwards & Backwards)
The Daily Doubles were crucial in this game; James picked up $10,000 from his, while Emily bet just $4,000 of her $14,400 in a category where she clearly felt comfortable. This not only meant James was leading going into Final, but it also left Harvey outside of score contention going into Final.
Statistics after Double Jeopardy:
James 23 correct 1 incorrect
Emily 20 correct 1 incorrect
Harvey 13 correct 2 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 30 (0 today).
Scores going into Final:
James $29,000
Emily $20,800
Harvey $6,800
All three players were correct in Final; that makes James your new champion! He’ll be back tomorrow to defend.
Tonight’s results:
Harvey $6,800 + $6,800 = $13,600 (Who is the Dalai Lama?)
Emily $20,800 + $4,000 = $24,800 (Who is the Dalai Lama?)
James $29,000 + $13,000 = $42,000 (Who is the Dalai Lama? (Love you, Holly!!)) (1-day total: $42,000)

Andy’s Thoughts:
- The previous version of this site’s prediction model would have placed Harvey’s win chances today at nearly 90%. Seeing today’s results, I think the current model does a much better job of taking variance into account.
- Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.
Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: James $29,000 Emily $20,800 Harvey $6,800)
Harvey: You need a pair of overbets to have a chance. Bet whatever you’d like. (Actual bet: $6,800)
Emily: If James bets to cover and is incorrect, he falls to $16,399. Bet no more than $4,399. (Actual bet: $4,000)
James: Standard cover bet today is $12,601. (Actual bet: $13,000)

I guessed correctly. The relatively high elevation was the give away.
Me too. And the word “figure” helped as well.
I agree on both counts. The elevation was a huge clue and “figure” implied an important station or position but perhaps outside of, say, monarchy.
Thank goodness we are back to non-ToC finals, where I feel I have the occasional chance.
Unlike the three posters who comments were avaiable as I write this, the keys they point out in today’s Final Jeopardy meant nothing to me. So I’m starting the week 0-2.
Today’s game is testament to the vagaries of Jeopardy! !
Art!
Yes I agree. I have read carefully Andy’s many well thought out discussions and analysis of variances.
No surprise at the Triple Get today as Thomas Manning is pretty much known for having met the Dalai Lama.
After yesterday’s great showing, I fully expect to see Harvey back in some future Second Chance Tournament or some such future tourney. In any case, I hope to see him compete again.
I got the FJ correct and I think that I also got it right when at the taping, but I can’t swear to that, as I’m not totally sure.
This was one heck of a great game to witness in person. 3 extremely good players and there only being 4 Triple Stumpers proved that. Unfortunately someone had to lose.
Before any of the 3 games were taped that I went to (today and prior 2), I got to speak to Emily’s mom and what a fantastic lady. Extremely nice and if she reads this, I say hello! 🙂 The one thing that was very interesting that she pointed out was that she had no idea when Emily would play. It was going to be in any of the 5 games taped on 01/27/25 or 01/28/25.
After the game when Ken was speaking to the players, he was mentioning about Emily having a very strong case for Second Chance. I’ll second that! (Pun intended)
Starting with tomorrow’s show I am back to having no idea what happens. After a very strong performance, will James win his 2nd? I can’t wait to see!
