Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, March 14, 2025

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the March 14, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category 21st Century Broadway) for Friday, March 14, 2025 (Season 41, Game 135):

A review of this musical noted “sacrilege” & said it was “blasphemous” but “its heart is as pure as…a Rodgers & Hammerstein show”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Jamie Hare, a library worker from Decatur, Georgia
Jamie Hare on Jeopardy!
Alex DeFrank, an inventory specialist from Brooklyn, New York
Alex DeFrank on Jeopardy!
Jack Goldfisher, a screenwriter & director from Los Angeles, California (1-day total: $32,401)
Jack Goldfisher on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Yesterday’s game saw Jack Goldfisher end James Corson’s run at two games. Today, he faces off against Alex DeFrank—who played Sports Jeopardy quite a long time ago now—and Jamie Hare.

Days like today are why I have the most number of problems with the websites that basically scrape and repost other people’s content—especially the ones who scrape biographical data about contestants to try to get random web traffic. It’s because those websites also have poorly moderated comment sections; “poorly moderated” in the sense that the operator has no idea what actually constitutes a hateful comment regarding a contestant, and therefore permits all kinds of hate to linger in their comments. (This is not a particularly new phenomenon; I first noticed it when these sites proliferated during Amy Schneider’s run on Jeopardy.)

Beginning on Monday at 11:00 AM EDT (3:00 PM GMT), coverage of Series 2 of the UK version of Jeopardy will be commencing here at The Jeopardy! Fan.

And finally, a preemption alert, thanks as always to Matt Carberry: Due to FOX’s coverage of the Big East men’s basketball tournament, there are schedule changes today in Denver, Baltimore, Cincinnati, New Orleans, Mobile, Green Bay, Syracuse, Lake Charles LA, and Marquette MI. Check your local listings in those markets!

According to Ben Brantley’s 2011 review of The Book of Mormon (link gifted to pass the paywall): Now you should probably know that this collaboration between the creators of television’s “South Park” (Trey Parker & Matt Stone) and the composer of “Avenue Q” (Robert Lopez) is also blasphemous, scurrilous and more foul-mouthed than David Mamet on a blue streak. But trust me when I tell you that its heart is as pure as that of a Rodgers and Hammerstein show.

The story details two Mormon missionaries in Africa, attempting to preach their faith to the inhabitants of a remote village in Uganda. It won nine Tony Awards, grossed over $800 million, and has run for over 5,000 performances at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • I can’t see a world where Jamie doesn’t receive a Second Chance invite after that game today.
  • Since this has already come up, on the 7th clue of Double Jeopardy, I personally did hear “fusion” and not “fission”.
  • There may be some other players from Season 1 that I’m not 100% aware of, but Alex is the first person that I’m aware of to win on both regular Jeopardy and Sports Jeopardy.
  • Today’s box score will be linked to when posted by the show.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Alex $26,400 Jamie $21,200 Jack $6,200)

Jack: To have any chance of victory, you need to bet at least $4,200. (Actual bet: $2,200)

Alex: Standard cover bet is $16,001. (Actual bet: $16,001)

Jamie: Bet no more than $8,799 to keep Jack locked out. (Actual bet: $5,201)

16 Comments on "Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, March 14, 2025"

  1. I guessed this one right just seeing the category as The Book of Mormon is clearly a Clue Crew favorite along with The Life of Pi, Harry Potter, and others that pop up frequently on the show.

    • Guessed correctly, too. My only reservation was that I didn’t remember exactly when it came out but was pretty sure it was not 25+ years ago.

  2. Matthew Yothers | March 14, 2025 at 10:12 am |

And as we know, one of Alex DeFrank’s opponents, Derek Allen, appeared on Jeopardy! in Season 37, and again in Season 37 Second Chance last year.

  3. What has been going on this week? I genuinely cannot remember the last time (in regular play) the entire week saw combined Coryats above $40,000, nor can I remember the last time two different contestants in the same week achieved paydays north of $40,000. Well done to all eleven contestants this week for absolutely remarkable performances!

And yeah, there’s no way in HELL Jamie doesn’t get a Second Chance invite after her game today. Hopefully the show agrees, because I want to see her get another chance to play.

I wonder how long Alex will continue to win?

  4. Hearing or reading about that musical many years ago and then essentially forgetting about it, I kept thinking “something about Mormons”, and could not remember the exact title 🙁

  5. Lol being apart of the demographic being depicted helped me to get this one instantly. Honestly a pretty funny take on my religion all said.

  6. Robert J. Fawkes | March 14, 2025 at 6:58 pm |

The only musical of recent vintage that I could think of that could be described as “sacrilegious” was “The Book of Mormon.” What else could it be? Pretty much a forgone conclusion that this would be a Triple Get.

  7. If one paid attention to the key points in the clue answer, this could be another “what else could be” correct response like Wednesday, and, Thursady. Unfortunately, I didn’t pay enought attention to the key points, and, originally said “What is Jesus CHrist Superstar?” but immediately realized that it didn’t fit the category, then said “what is Hamilton?” which didn’t fit the key points in the clue answer.

    • Funny. [But I have made that mistake before.] In this case, though, I IMMEDIATELY thought ‘Book of Mormon’.

  8. I don’t see how this couldn’t have been talking about Jesus Christ Superstar as well.

  9. A very exciting game today!

  10. I’m not so good with Broadway and all that I could think of was The Producers. I wasn’t confident in that guess. When I saw the answer, I did cringe thinking that I should have gotten it.

Retro congrats to Alex on one heck of a win. Since Laura’s run ended at 8, these past 4 champions have been really good players, as has their competition. Put some of these players into other fields of players and they could easily be 5 day champions.

Jamie should most definitely be considered for Second Chance.

Will Alex get that 2nd win? Can’t wait to see tomorrow night!
