Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
As we move into the final few games of tournament play in Season 41, Week 26 of this season begins with Semifinal #2 of the 2025 JIT between Matt Amodio, Luigi de Guzman, and Emily Sands. (And to think that after this week we’re going to have nearly five consecutive months of regular play before the summer break, and then another nearly four months of regular play following that. Of course—and mark my words, because I guarantee this is going to happen in 2026—people will complain once again come early March next year about how there are just so many tournaments. Reddit would have been insufferable had it existed in the winter of 2005 when the Ultimate Tournament of Champions was airing.)
Matt got here via a win over Hannah Wilson and Doug Molitor, while Luigi beat Amy Schneider and Avi Gupta, and Emily dispatched with Jonathan Fisher and Rachael Schwartz. While the Unified Prediction Model does have Matt as a bit of a favorite in this match, anyone who underestimates either Luigi or Emily does so at their peril.

George Washington’s first Cabinet consisted of just four other members: Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson, Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton, Secretary of War Henry Knox, and Attorney General Edmond Randolph.
To me, being able to name the first Attorney General of the United States is both straightforward and very suitable for this level of play.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:
(Scores: Matt $22,800 Luigi $16,400 Emily $11,400)
Matt: Standard cover bet over Luigi is $10,001, and considering Luigi’s position, this is probably the best idea today. (Actual bet: $10,001)
Luigi: You can’t both cover Emily and win a Triple Stumper. If you think we’re due a Triple Stumper, then bet between $0 and $3,600. Otherwise, bet at least $6,401—but going all in is fine here as well, in order to force a cover bet out of Matt. (Actual bet: $16,399)
Emily: You have to be correct to have any chance of victory, assuming Matt covers and does the math right. Bet at least $1,400 to have any chance of victory—but you might as well go all in here to force a cover bet out of Luigi. (Actual bet: $400)
Updated JIT odds:
Matt +130
Roger +160
Raymond +840
Juveria +950
Ray +1600
Finals length odds:
2 games: +170
3 games: +110
4 games: +340

I probably should have gotten this. I did not. Oh well.
I’m very happy to see Matt doing so well in this tournament – even after 2024 Masters concluded and he went home winless and in sixth, I knew for a fact that Matt still had it in him, and it’s been an absolute treat to watch him do so well here! 🙂
Having visited Williamsburg, Virginia, a number of times, I remembered that Randolph was the first Attorney General from one of the tours. He attended William and Mary College so it was probably that tour. He later went on to become Secretary of State succeeding Jefferson. Not a triple get but, at least, Matt got this. Congratulations to Matt for moving on to the final round.
I didn’t know the FJ.
Wow, what a comeback by Matt. Very well done and retro congrats to him on the win. Some great players in the Finals so far and can’t wait to see who joins them tomorrow night.
Seems like Emily probably made a math error unfortunately.
Great game between these 3 players tonight.
The 2 runner ups tonight each won $10k, right?
Not a good FJ for me at all.
But I was still surprised by the $400 bet…
🤔
🙀
The good thing was that at least it didn’t end up being consequential.
Congrats to Matt!
