Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:

Series 2 of UK Jeopardy! begins today at 3:00 PM on ITV1 (11:00 AM EDT for my North American readers), with Stephen Fry returning to host 25 more hour-long episodes. There have been some changes to the format made for Series 2—the two major ones are that there are seven categories on the board instead of 6, with the top value adjusted from £150 to £125. This gives us five more clues per round, adjusts the maximum possible Coryat score up to £10,500 (from £9,600) and changes the maximum possible single-game score to £166,000 (up from £151,600). In terms of the minimum score, that also moves—to -£11,100 (from the previous minimum, calculated last year, of -£10,350.)

Unfortunately, in what will certainly be a disappointment for those fans who were expecting things to run identically to the US version in terms of the continuum of champions, the 2-day champion from the end of Series 1, Archi Campbell, appears to not be returning to defend his title. Instead, if the “sneak peek” promo is to be believed, we have contestants named Adam, Alexia, and Nicky. To me, I think the continuation of champions over a series break is as integral to the show itself as responding in the form of a question, so I personally believe this choice by Whisper North is quite a misstep.

As with last season, though, I’ll be updating this page during each commercial break with statistical updates.

Thanks so much Jeopardy Fan for the blogs! As a genuinely bang-average quizzer, I used it a lot to prepare for appearing on Jeopardy, especially when it came to betting strategy. If I ever bump into you, you can have a pint on me (preferably Guinness!).

  2. David in London | March 17, 2025 at 8:58 pm |

Congratulations Adam! Not sure about bang average, all three of you looked really impressive. I struggled just to keep up with the pace of it playing along at home! I had no idea on FJ, guessed mid-19th century so was way off.

Delighted to see Jeopardy back for another series, really enjoyed it last year and hope it’s a success. Thanks so much Andy for covering it again, very much appreciated.

  3. Hi Andy! I was the reigning champion from Series 1. I contacted the producers when they announced Series 2 to ask if I’d be returning, and it was clear they hadn’t even thought about it. After a few days they told me they’d decided against bringing me back as “it would have been too long since the first series aired so no one would remember who you were” which to me totally misses the point of it being a signature element of the show’s format, and the fact that it’s undeniably unfair, but they didn’t seem to care about any of that. I’m glad you at least agree!
