Andy’s Pre-Game Thoughts:

A new week of UK Jeopardy! begins today with Dan Afshar defending his title against Cornwall’s Kit Chapman and Berkshire’s Laura Binnie.

A couple of important notes on the scheduling front this week: Firstly, for the North Americans following things, the United Kingdom moved to British Summer Time over the weekend—that means that the show will be airing at 10:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time for the rest of the series. Secondly, no episode will be airing either Thursday or Friday this week due to ITV’s coverage of the Grand National Festival.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Dan £3,150 Kit £1,725 Laura £300)

Dan: Standard cover bet is £301. (Actual bet: £450)

Laura: In the battle for second, I would bet nothing here—a common bet from second is to pass the leader’s pre-Final score by £1; if Kit does that, he’d fall to £299 if incorrect. (Actual bet: £300)

Kit: If Dan makes the cover bet here, the amount to pass him is £1,125—the exact amount that keeps Laura locked out for secopnd. Thus, bet exactly £1,125. (Actual bet: £1,725)

  1. 100% easy for this American 🙂

    • Would have been more interesting I think if Utah had been then answer since Iowa and Ohio follow the same pattern.

      • I was also wondering how they picked Iowa to be the missing one instead of either of the other two. My guess was that they thought by saying “Ohio & Utah” players were likely to start thinking of states from the east coast westward or from the west coast eastward, maybe taking more than 30 seconds to work their way to the middle of the country (though West to East would be fastest due to fewer/bigger states). Or perhaps they thought some UK players might not be confident about what is and isn’t a U.S. state and Guam would be easier to confuse with Utah than with the other two.

Got FJ this time. Having lived in the USA in the 1980s helped me.

Good match – the True Daily Double makes for great entertainment. It felt brave of Dan to go for it; having watched two episodes back to back (not sure if it was filmed that way) it was conspicuous that the seven previous Daily Doubles had all been missed (and the previous FJ was a Triple Stumper).

Dan seems impressively quick on the buzzer, he was locked in after the last break. I feel sorry for the challengers over the last couple of games, most of them barely seemed to have had a look in against him (and against Kit).

I forgot to add; looks like all three contestants on Tuesday’s episode are from London. Not seen that before.

  3. This was pretty easy – but at least that’s a bright spot to an otherwise not-great day. :/
