Today’s Final Jeopardy – Friday, October 3, 2025

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the October 3, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Groundbreaking Drama) for Friday, October 3, 2025 (Season 42, Game 20):

Act I of this 1879 play opens in a room with “a small sofa”, “a small table” & “a cabinet with china and other small objects”

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Ellie Baker, a lawyer originally from Louisville, Kentucky
Ellie Baker on Jeopardy!
Roberto Carabeo, an environmental designer from New York, New York
Roberto Carabeo on Jeopardy!
TJ Fisher, a marketing specialist from San Francisco, California (1-day total: $15,089)
TJ Fisher on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

TJ Fisher dominated yesterday’s game on the signalling device, picking up more than half of the correct responses. Today, he goes for victory #2 against Louisville’s Ellie Baker and New York’s Roberto Carabeo.

One thing that minorly concerns me about TJ’s ability to go on a run of victories, though: on the last Daily Double, he claimed cowardice; there are times where aggressive Daily Double betting can be the difference between victory and defeat, and I am hoping that TJ will be able to overcome that.

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House is a play about Nora Helmer, who was feeling stifled in her marriage to Torvald, and by the end of the play, she chooses to leave him (Before you get mad about plot spoilers, this play is 146 years old.) It was considered groundbreaking as marriage was still very much considered holy during that period, and it was considered very scandalous to question the traditional marriage roles of men and women during that time. Ibsen even went as far to write an alternate ending for Germany where Nora chooses to stay. Such feminism was also very much taboo in Victorian England, and it also had to be adapted in order to be performed publicly in London.

Again, I think my own history in following the show helped me with this one; Ibsen’s oeuvre is the first place I go to when given that era in a clue.

  1. My head was stuck on Glass Menagerie even thought I knew this was before Tennessee Williams’ time.

  2. An easy FJ for theater geeks like me. If written today, it might be titled “A Doll’s Hands.” Seriously though, Lucas Hnath wrote a sequel about ten years ago called “A Doll’s House, Part 2.” It’s about Nora’s imagined return and is very funny in parts.

  3. BTW, besides your noting this might be the 1st regular episode all 3 finalists bet 0 in FJ, wondering if TJ is first with > 30 correct responses his 1st two matches?

    • Even just taking a cursory look at my list of 5-time champions, it’s happened at least a few times before. And that doesn’t include anyone who didn’t get to 5.

  4. Same as TJ, I also went with Chekhov, but with “The Cherry Orchard”.

  5. Robert J. Fawkes | October 3, 2025 at 6:32 pm |

If the year hadn’t been given, I would have gone with “The Glass Menagerie” as Ellie and others did. The year 1879, however, steered me away from “The Glass Menagerie” as there was an almost 60-year difference. That left me with Ibsen and “A Doll’s House.” My high school put on this play long before the play was a hundred years old so that helped, too.

  6. I had no chance on this FJ, as the category is not in my forte.

Retro congrats to TJ on win #2 and we’ll see if he can get win #3 on Monday.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Upon seeing TJ’s wager, my knee-jerk response was “Andy got his triple zero.” I guess I’ve been coming here for a while, huh?
