Today’s Final Jeopardy – Wednesday, December 3, 2025

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the December 3, 2025, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as noon Eastern in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Monuments & Memorials) for Wednesday, December 3, 2025 (Season 42, Game 63):

In NYC’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine, an alcove with memorials to Hart Crane, Sylvia Plath & 54 others is the “American” this

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Ron Lalonde, a medical physicist from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Ron Lalonde on Jeopardy!
Sarah Murphy, a freelance transcript editor from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Sarah Murphy on Jeopardy!
Libby Jones, a recruiter from Davenport, Florida (2-day total: $70,802)
Libby Jones on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

On a day where winter has decided to rush in and announce its arrival in a very loud way to St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, we have a pair of Canadians as our challengers to a very strong two-day champion in Libby Jones. Unfortunately, it’s not an “official” two-Canadian game, as while Ron Lalonde (yes, Ray Lalonde’s twin brother) is originally from Thunder Bay, Ontario, the medical physicist has chosen to bill himself as from his current location of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. However, our second Canadian is Hamilton, Ontario’s Sarah Murphy, who appears to freelance in a similar fashion as something I often did in the 2010s: transcript editing. (Though I often worked in a slightly earlier part of the process.)

In terms of what’s at stake here for Libby: assuming things work in a similar fashion to this year—and I can’t see at this point why they wouldn’t—Libby is very likely going to be part of next year’s Champions Wildcard. She would guarantee a spot at least in Champions Wildcard with a win today. (Let’s be honest here, though: with what she’s already won in total, she’s probably seeing an invite to next year’s Tournament of Champions invite if that happens.) Will that happen for her? Or will one of the Canadians take the champion’s lectern tomorrow?

Correct response: What is Poet’s Corner?

More information about Final Jeopardy:

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2025 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

The original Poet’s Corner was a section of Westminster Abbey in London, that has served as a burial or commemoration place for numerous British poets, playwrights, and writers over the centuries. However, in 1983, at a commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Washington Irving, the dean of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Rev. James Parks, announced that an American Poet’s Corner would be formed at the cathedral, with Irving, Walt Whitman, and Emily Dickinson the first inductees. As of 2025, 56 poets have been so honored in New York City.

Did I know before today that there was an American Poet’s Corner? Nope. However, I was able to put together pieces of other knowledge that I had—namely, that a Poet’s Corner exists in England and that Sylvia Plath was an American poet—in order to solve today’s Final Jeopardy clue. Thus, I have to give two thumbs up to the writers today for this Final.

(Categories: It’s Frieze-Ing In Here; Streaming Comedy; African Geography; Double Meanings; Next In The Sequence; The Earth Rocks)

An incorrect response on DD2 made this game much closer; Sarah found DD3, but an incorrect response on it, and a clue after, meant Sarah wasn’t around for Final Jeopardy.

Ron 15 correct 3 incorrect
Sarah 7 correct 4 incorrect
Total number of unplayed clues this season: 6 (0 today).

Scores going into Final:

Ron $11,200
Sarah -$400

Ron was correct in Final, but Libby was not, as Ron Lalonde becomes the second Lalonde twin to win on the show! He’ll be back tomorrow to defend.

Tonight’s results:

Sarah -$400 (By rule, did not participate in Final Jeopardy)
Ron $11,200 + $4,001 = $15,201 (What is Poet’s Corner?) (1-day total: $15,201)
Libby $15,200 – $7,201 = $7,999 (What is poet?)

Andy’s Thoughts:

  • Courtesy Libby’s sibling Evan who found this: Ron & Ray Lalonde are the second set of twins to become Jeopardy! champions; twins Phyllis & Paula Massengale won in 1989 & 1990, respectively.
  • One major reason why contestants shouldn’t “let” a player in third stick around for Final Jeopardy is that those last clues can often be crucial for changing the Final Jeopardy wagering scenarios. For example, Libby’s correct response on the final clue ensured that today’s game wasn’t a three-quarters game—and, in fact, it did get a wagering mistake out of Ron.
  • Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Libby $15,200 Ron $11,200 Sarah -$400)

Libby: Standard cover bet is $7,201. If you do think Ron might make a small bet, a bet between $2 and $798 best defends against that. (Actual bet: $7,201)

Sarah: (By rule, did not participate in Final Jeopardy)

Ron: Keep your win chances as high as possible; bet between $0 and $3,199 and hope for an incorrect response out of Libby. (Actual bet: $4,001)

  1. Another Teaching FJ! You love to see it. And yep, got this one.

  2. Good clue. I didn’t know there was an American Poets’ Corner either, but one should be able to work it out from the facts given. Another bit of trivia concerning Washington National Cathedral: it’s where Helen Keller is buried.

    • Oops, that’s a different cathedral. Still nice to know.

    • Another bit of trivia about the Washington National Cathedral: Woodrow Wilson is also buried there, making him the only President not buried in any of the 50 states. But the Final Jeopardy! clue is about New York City’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine, not the Washington National Cathedral.

  3. So we had a sibling of a former winner defeat the sibling of a former winner. Unlike Dr. Beverly Hofstadter on the Big Bang Theory, “I’d not like to do the math!”

  4. I can see the clickbait sites now, complaining about how Libby was “cheated out of a third victory because the judges wouldn’t accept “poet” for “poet’s corner.” And, as usual the sensationalsts know, or, at least should know why Libby’s response wasn’t considered acceptable. Poet reers to one who writes poetry. Poet’s Corner refers to a specific place where poets are memorialzed. Two diferent things.
For the record, I didn’t gave aa response. Until I reread the Final Jeopardy clue answer here, I didn’t recognize any of the names as being poets. And, even if I had, I don’t know if that would have lead me to the (American) Poet’s Corner.

  5. Because one of my children is a bit of a poet, I was well aware of the American Poets’ Corner (yes, it’s plural as there is more than one poet honored there). That made it a lot easier to get this final than having to figure it out from the clue.

  6. As a Manhattanite, I’m just here to say that if any of you find yourself in NYC with time to spare, a visit to St. John the Divine does not disappoint!! It’s one of the MANY things to see & do in the neighborhoods of Upper Manhattan.

  7. I didn’t know this FJ. Poetry just isn’t my thing.

Nice 2 day run by Libby.

Retro congrats to Ron on win #1 on the Alex Trebek Stage and hope to see the streak continue tomorrow. 🙂
