Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category English Place Names) for Wednesday, January 14, 2026 (Season 42, Game 93):

Once called Grontabricc, it’s named for a structure spanning a tributary of the Great Ouse River

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Harvey Silikovitz, an attorney & worldwide karaoke singer originally from West Orange, New Jersey
Harvey Silikovitz on Jeopardy!
Ian Morrison, an airline ramp agent originally from Aurora, Colorado
Ian Morrison on Jeopardy!
Stella Trout, a software engineer originally from Houston, Texas
Stella Trout on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

Our third of three semifinals for Winter 2026 Champions Wildcard is between Stella Trout, Ian Morrison, and Harvey Silikovitz. One of these three players will join Cameron Berry and Jonathan Hugendubler in the two-game total-point final tomorrow and Friday for the last spot in the 33rd Tournament of Champions.

One thing that I am surprised by at this point is that, as of time of publication on the morning of January 14, 2026, no information regarding quarterfinal pairings has been posted to the Jeopardy! website. This is quite a marked departure from some of the previous events, and I find this change to be disappointing as a fan. How am I supposed to get excited about the Tournament of Champions if there is no information to be found about the pairings?

Correct response: What is Cambridge?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)

What is now the English university city of Cambridge is named for the series of bridges that have crossed the Cam River (a tributary of the Great Ouse River) at the town site since Anglo-Saxon times; the current bridge on the site is the Magdalene Bridge (or the Great Bridge), with the town area being named Grontabricc (or “bridge over the Granta”) when the Anglo-Saxons began occupying the area in the 5th century.

This was an easier clue for me personally, as I’ve been going through ToC-level material recently, and a clue about the etymology of Cambridge appeared in the 2022 Tournament of Champions. Unfortunately, it also prevents me from having a good idea as to how I think it will play in studio.

Game Recap:

Missing DD2 four clues in didn’t stop Stella tonight—she came all the way back, picking up $14,000 and holding a lead entering Final Jeopardy (albeit aided by an incorrect response on DD3 from Harvey.)

Final Jeopardy saw Harvey and Stella be correct, which worked out in Stella’s favor as she didn’t make the standard cover bet in FInal Jeopardy. No matter, though, she’s on to the final!

Scores going into Final:

Stella $14,000
Ian $10,600
Harvey $9,800

Tonight’s results:

Harvey $9,800 + $9,800 = $19,600 (What is Cambridge)
Ian $10,600 – $9,001 = $1,599 (What is Oxford?)
Stella $14,000 + $5,601 = $19,601 (What is Cambridge?) (Finalist)

Stella Trout, today's Jeopardy! winner (for the January 14, 2026 game.)

Chances of winning Champions Wildcard:

Cameron Berry 32.632%
Jonathan Hugendubler 35.180%
Stella Trout 32.188%

Andy’s Thoughts:

Final Jeopardy! wagering suggestions:

(Scores: Stella $14,000 Ian $10,600 Harvey $9,800)

Stella: Standard cover bet is $7,201. Because Ian has occasion to go all in due to his own situation, you should make the cover bet. (Actual bet: $5,601)

Ian: You’re in Stratton’s Dilemma; you can’t both play for a Triple Stumper and cover Harvey. Bet either between $0 and $799 if you want to play for the Triple Stumper, or go all in (but at least $9,001) in order to force a cover bet out of Stella. (Actual bet: $9,001)

Harvey: Bet between $1,601 (in case Ian makes a small bet) and $2,999 (in case Stella covers). (Actual bet: $9,800)
