Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Typography) for Tuesday, January 6, 2026 (Season 42, Game 87):
Inspired by Port Authority bus terminal signage, it was adopted as a font by NYU & the Tribeca Film Festival
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Geoff Barnes, an analyst from Washington, D.C.
|
Dave Bond, an art student from Rochester, New York
|
Michelle Tsai, a tutor originally from Honolulu, Hawaii
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Today’s second game of the Champions Wildcard quarterfinals is taking place between Michelle Tsai, Dave Bond, and Geoff Barnes. Michelle is fresh out of Week 2 of Second Chance after taking a strong victory in that competition, while Dave and Geoff are both multi-day champions who came very close to the Tournament of Champions. (Dave, in fact, has had the longest wait of anyone, as he was the carryover champion at the end of the qualification period for the 32nd Tournament of Champions.)
This is also an important reminder that there are four wildcard spots in the semifinals for non-winners (thus, I won’t be posting wagering suggestions all week on this page.)

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2026 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
Inspired by signage around the Port Authority bus terminal as well as other locations around New York City, the Gotham font was designed by Tobias Frere-Jones in 2000 with contributions from Jonathan Hoefler. In addition to the New York specific references given in the clue, intended to point both players and viewers to the name Gotham, the font is also famous for appearing in GQ magazine in the early 2000s, with its most famous use being the Barack Obama 2008 presidential campaign.
And, yes, I deliberately decided to put today’s “More Information” in Gotham font, just in case anyone is more of a visual learner.

Game Recap:
Michelle Tsai picked up 23 correct today; conservative bets on the pair of Daily Doubles in Double Jeopardy, as well as Final, ensured she would be advancing. Final Jeopardy being a Triple Stumper did a lot of harm to Geoff’s wildcard chances, while Dave will definitely have some nervy moments over the rest of the week.
Scores going into Final:
Michelle $16,000
Dave $11,800
Geoff $8,800
Tonight’s results:
Geoff $8,800 – $8,000 = $800 (What is Helvetica?)
Dave $11,800 – $1,800 = $10,000 (What is Arial? Go Bills!)
Michelle $16,000 – $1,602 = $14,398 (What is) (Semi-Finalist)

Wild Card standings:
Monday: Stella Trout, $26,401
Tuesday: Michelle Tsai, $14,398
1. Bill McKinney, $12,200, 96.237% to advance
2. Dave Bond, $10,000, 63.184% to advance
3. Dargan Ware, $2,200, 0.298% to advance
4. Geoff Barnes, $800, 0.003% to advance
Andy’s Thoughts:
- I am a very big fan of Michelle’s Final Jeopardy wager; it’s exactly what I would have bet in her position, to the dollar.
- Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.
