Today’s Final Jeopardy – Thursday, March 19, 2026

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the March 19, 2026, game of Jeopardy! — please do not scroll down if you wish to avoid being spoiled. Please note that the game airs as early as 10:30 AM Eastern today in some U.S. television markets.

Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Composers) for Thursday, March 19, 2026 (Season 42, Game 139):

In the 1860s he composed one of his most famous pieces to celebrate the birth of longtime friend Bertha Faber’s second son

(correct response beneath the contestants)

Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:

Jordan Haynie Ware, a priest from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Jordan Haynie Ware on Jeopardy!
Jason Snell, a journalist & podcaster from Mill Valley, California
Jason Snell on Jeopardy!
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (4-day total: $106,601)
Jamie Ding on Jeopardy!

Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:

As I always tend to say at this point when a champion gets to four victories: there have been 290 5-time champions on Jeopardy! since the show returned to the airwaves in September 1984. Jamie Ding is looking to become the 291st. Looking to stop him from doing so are a pair of challengers who will make my game-charting life difficult today, rounding out a trio of “J” names: Alberta’s Jordan Haynie Ware and California’s Jason Snell.

In addition to “will Jamie get to 5 wins”, if he does so, there are a couple of other things today to look out for: I currently believe that the records for “most correct responses in one’s first 5 games” and “average Coryat score in one’s first five games” are both held by Steve Chernicoff, who picked up 180 correct responses (including Final Jeopardy) and an average Coryat (adjusted for the doubling of dollar values in 2001) of $28,560 during his regular-play run in July and September of 1994. As of right now, Jamie is at 138 correct and an average Coryat of $30,800; Jamie would need a Coryat score today of $19,600 to tie Steve’s 5-game average, and would need 42 correct (I wouldn’t consider this within the realm of possibility, but he did pick up 45 on Tuesday) to get to 180.

If you watch the show on a CBS affiliate, March Madness coverage is very likely to interrupt your viewing experience today and tomorrow. Check your local listings, or Matt Carberry’s Google sheet. There are five markets—Tampa-St. Petersburg, Roanoke-Lynchburg, Myrtle Beach-Florence, Augusta-Aiken, and Fort Wayne—that will be airing the show at 10:30 AM Eastern today (1.5 hours earlier than the usual “first airing” out of WBBJ in Jackson, TN); thus, results will be posted earlier than usual today. If your station has pre-empted the show entirely, remember that you can watch tonight’s episode beginning tomorrow morning on both Hulu and Peacock. (Crave TV in Canada.)

And, if basketball completely isn’t your thing at all, you have an option to get bonus Jeopardy! tomorrow evening at 8:00 (7:00 Central) on ABC (CTV in Canada) with the second quarterfinal of Celebrity Jeopardy! All-Stars; this week’s tilt is between Macaulay Culkin, Steven Weber, and Jackie Tohn. This season’s Celebrity games were all cast to bring back the stronger Celebrity players in order to ensure that the fans get both excellent and entertaining gameplay.

Correct response: Who is Johannes Brahms?

In 1868, to celebrate the birth of Bertha Faber’s second son, Johannes Brahms composed “Wiegenlied”, better known to English-speaking audiences as “Brahms’ Lullaby”. According to some of Brahms’s biographers, Brahms had been in love with Faber at one point, and parts of the melody of this song were actually part of a song that Faber had sung to Brahms many times.

That being said, the path to this one is relatively straightforward: the song for the birth of a child suggests “lullaby”, while “lullaby” + “1860s” should hopefully bring one directly to Brahms.

Game Recap:

Jordan Haynie Ware took an early lead and held it for most of the way, but she left Jamie an opening, and he barged right through—finding DD3 after a clue selection error on Jordan’s part, picking the category where DD2 was instead of the box overwhelmingly likely to have the last DD—and that was enough to take a healthy lead entering Final.

The comeback was completed in Final, with Jamie being the only player correct. He’s now a 5-time champion and will go for #6 tomorrow!

Scores going into Final:

Jamie $20,800
Jordan $12,600
Jason $10,000

Tonight’s results:

Jason $10,000 – $6,400 = $3,600 (Who is Haydn?)
Jordan $12,600 – $8,401 = $4,199 (Who is ??)
Jamie $20,800 + $4,401 = $25,201 (Who is Brahms?) (5-day total: $131,802)
