Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Historic Americans) for Monday, March 23, 2026 (Season 42, Game 141):
Before taking office in 1801, President Jefferson asked the Army to locate this officer who had “knowledge of the western country”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Erin Howard, a community membership facilitator from Shrewsbury, Massachusetts
|
Max Genecov, a clinical psychology Ph.D. student from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
|
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (6-day total: $162,203)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Jamie Ding has qualified for the Tournament of Champions, and enters into this week as a 6-game champion. Interestingly, the bubble the last two Tournaments of Champions for the bye into the semifinals has come at seven games—how Jamie does the next few days may be very crucial for his Tournament of Champions chances overall. Certainly, not having to get through a quarterfinal makes it much easier to take the overall crown. Another interesting consideration is that this would be Jamie’s third consecutive day heading to the studio; you might see him start to tire by the end of the week as a result.
Your challengers today are Erin Howard of Massachusetts and Max Genecov of Philadelphia.

Before becoming famous as one of the leaders of the Corps of Discovery (the Lewis and Clark expedition), Meriwether Lewis served as Private Secretary to the President for Thomas Jefferson; the two were acquainted through Virginia society.
It’ll be interesting to see how this Final Jeopardy plays; unless you know a lot of biographical details here of both Lewis and Clark, I suspect you’d be flipping a coin between the two of them.

Game Recap:
Challenger Max Genecov played well in this one, but the Daily Doubles proved to be the difference today; Jamie got a combined $8,400 from his two, while Max lost $7,000 on his one attempt. This allowed for Jamie to cruise to a runaway by the end of Double Jeopardy.
Final Jeopardy saw a relatively rare occurrence for the modern game, as all three players were correct in Final Jeopardy. Jamie’s a 7-day champion, though, nearing $200,000. He goes for #8 tomorrow!
Scores going into Final:
Jamie $28,200
Max $9,800
Erin $1,400
Tonight’s results:
Erin $1,400 + $1,000 = $2,400 (Who is Lewis?)
Max $9,800 + $6,000 = $15,800 (Who is Lewis?)
Jamie $28,200 + $4,800 = $33,000 (Who is Lewis?) (7-day total: $195,203)

Andy’s Thoughts:
- I don’t like the fact that I have to post such a disclaimer, but there are always people who join an episode late and get confused. The NATO phonetic alphabet category didn’t deal with actual changes, just whimsical suggested ones.
- Today’s double runaway means that no wagering suggestions need to be posted.
- Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.
