Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category World Landmarks) for Thursday, April 16, 2026 (Season 42, Game 159):
In 2025 a church begun in 1882 became the tallest building in this city
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Erin Adams, a community college professor from Orlando, Florida
|
Andrew Younger, a nonprofit director from San Diego, California
|
Jamie Ding, a bureaucrat & law student from Lawrenceville, New Jersey (24-day total: $667,000)
|
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
Jamie Ding—who has had a runaway in 75% of his 24 victories thus far on the Alex Trebek Stage—goes into today’s game looking to get to the quarter-century mark against Erin Adams and Andrew Younger. It should be noted, though, that all of the four players currently above him in wins (Ken Jennings, Amy Schneider, Matt Amodio, and James Holzhauer) had runaway percentages north of 80% (the record for regular play runaway percentage in the “Sky’s The Limit” era is Ben Chan with 90%).
If Jamie does win game #25, he is extremely likely to surpass Larissa Kelly on the all-time winnings list (including tournaments and consolation prizes); Jamie is also $39,200 from surpassing Roger Craig on the list as well, and would likely need one of the all-time great performances to crack the top 10 on that list after today.
Additionally, fans are starting to notice—and appreciate—that in Jamie’s daily sign-in, the M of Jamie is written to be a representation of the Lower Peninsula of his home state of Michigan.

Correct response: What is Barcelona?

Barcelona’s famous Sagrada Família basilica has been under construction since the late 19th century; in addition to finally becoming the tallest building in Barcelona, it became the world’s tallest church in October 2025 when part of its central tower was lifted into place, reaching its final height of 566 feet (172.5 meters) in February 2026.
Unrelatedly, and I’m pretty certain that nobody actually tracks such a thing, but I feel like this has to be a rare occurrence of the previous day’s Wordle (“begun”) showing up as a word in the Final Jeopardy clue the following day.

Game Recap:
Jamie Ding picked up exactly half of the correct responses on each of the two boards in today’s matchup, with his only real hiccup being a $7,600 incorrect response on the game’s final Daily Double as he cruised to his 19th runaway in 25 games.
Final Jeopardy saw a triple-get for the second game in succession, with Jamie picking up $7,400 more to bring his total over $700,000. He goes for win #26 tomorrow!
Scores going into Final:
Jamie $27,600
Andrew $6,200
Erin $3,800
Tonight’s results:
Erin $3,800 + $3,799 = $7,599 (What is… Barcelona?)
Andrew $6,200 + $1,401 = $7,601 (What is Barcelona?)
Jamie $27,600 + $7,400 = $35,000 (What is…Barcelona?) (25-day total: $702,000)

Game Stats:
Jamie $26,800 Coryat, 30 correct, 2 incorrect, 49.12% in first on buzzer (28/57), 0/1 on rebound attempts (on 3 rebound opportunities)
Andrew $6,200 Coryat, 14 correct, 3 incorrect, 29.82% in first on buzzer (17/57), 0/0 on rebound attempts (on 0 rebound opportunities)
Erin $3,800 Coryat, 7 correct, 2 incorrect, 12.28% in first on buzzer (7/57), 0/2 on rebound attempts (on 3 rebound opportunities)
Combined Coryat Score: $36,800
Jamie Ding, to win:
26 games: 80.901%
27: 65.450%
28: 52.949%
29: 42.837%
30: 34.655%
Avg. streak: 29.236 games.
Andy’s Thoughts:
- Jamie’s 0 correct in “5-Letter Medical Issues” is only the 7th time in 25 games that he’s failed to give a correct response in a category.
- Carrying on with my “Jeopardy is in fact getting harder” thesis, I am guessing that Andrew probably finds days where he gets 50 correct when playing at home to be an increasingly rarer proposition. To that point, I would probably guess that Jamie himself doesn’t get 50 correct very oftenwhen playing at home.
- Today’s J!6 clues can be found at the monthly archive.
