It’s Saturday, which means it’s time for another week of editorial thoughts!
Yes, I Made A Mistake Yesterday. However, I Can Learn Things From My Mistakes — Like Who’s Stealing My Content.
Yesterday, I made a mistake.
One thing I should say: Me deliberately making a mistake is incredibly rare—one thing that I always like to say when reporting for The Jeopardy! Fan is that I would rather be right than first. But sometimes I make mistakes—yesterday I had been discombobulated by a few things, including being interrupted by a door-to-door marketer in the airing of yesterday’s game, and my focus wasn’t entirely there. So, there was an error in my recap for a few hours.
However, one thing that I have said in the past as a way of “excusing” a mistake is that my mistakes often allow me to notice things. One issue that occurs in the Jeopardy! reporting space is that there are website operators who have realized that I have built a successful platform and will attempt to copy that in order to chip away at own success—and that includes copying my data without verifying that information. So, my mistake, instead of being confined to my own website, propagated to a number of other websites as well. Now, knowing what caused this error, I can very easily look at other sites with Jeopardy! recaps and immediately tell who stole my content.
I’d like to remind my readers not to actually visit these websites because that will only help them, but “TV Regular” and “Jeopardy Tonight”—I see that you’re stealing my content. I would encourage you to research ways to do the work yourself—your sites will be better for it.

One Problem Jeopardy! Is Having Right Now — And I’m Not Sure How To Fix It
One thing that has been a major advantage for Jeopardy! over the years—that in many markets, it has aired at exactly the same time on exactly the same station for the past 30+ years—is proving to make its brand expansion difficult.
There is a small but not insignificant number of viewers who are seeing the promos for Jeopardy! Masters and are assuming that these games will be airing in the usual syndicated time slot. While most diehard fans know this not to be the case, many regular viewers are so conditioned to the “one Jeopardy! a day” routine that it might be more difficult for them to realize that Masters is airing in prime time.
Do I know how to fix this? I’m not sure how you’d break that habit and routine of your viewers without upsetting the affiliates of the 59% of households who watch the show on a non-ABC channel by saying “it’s at 8:00/7:00 Central on ABC” on the show itself.
