Remember how a friend saw Jeopardy! on TV where we live, other than the new episodes and the season 25 ones? Well come to find out they are in fact the weekend reruns. Now I wish my episode was airing again after all, in case friends that missed it the first time want to see it. 🙁 Anyway, my Coryat for this last Sunday‘s was 28000. When the episode originally aired, my score was 17400. Ouch! Incidentally, it was Andy’s second time blogging, not counting his guest entry! Andy points out to me, by the way, that our 500th post approaches. I believe he will have the honors. Should we have a lil contest to celebrate? I want to give all my trivia books to people that will appreciate and use them. I’ll happily take your ideas.

Had you heard of this “Roger Corman”? Jeopardy! tweeted a clue from this category today, and I did get it right. I managed to go 3/5 in the TV clues.
Keith won his 6th episode yesterday. Today he found the Daily Double in the Jeopardy round. He’d answered 6 and gotten one wrong, and had 2200. John had 1800 after getting 4 right. We had not heard from Elizabeth yet. Keith wagered it all (unusual for him?) on this clue in Polynesia: “The easternmost outpost of Polynesia, it lies about 2,200 miles off the coast of Chile.” I had a gut feeling he’d get it right because of what his total would be if he did. (Deja vu!) And he and I both got it. I wonder, by the way, if Roger Craig ever did make it to this place after his ToC dominance…?
John said, “Who is Daley?” at first on this clue in The Old Gray Mayor: “‘The last of the big-city bosses,’ he was 74 when he passed away as Chicago’s mayor.” Mr. Trebek asked him to be more specific. I knew there were two but only knew “Richard” by name, so that’s what I said. John said, “Who is Chuck Daly?” and was negged at that time. Keith picked it back up. It was the last clue before the break. Keith had gotten two right since his Daily Double then, and had 5000. Just before John’s interview, though, John was credited with a correct response because apparently both Daley mayors were named Richard. Not sure I’d have credited him with a correct response. I didn’t know this but I guess Chuck Daly is a basketball coach. John had 2200 then. Luckily that clue came after the Daily Double and didn’t affect it then.
Surprise surprise, Mr. Trebek gave the less-than-a-minute warning with 7 clues left. Three were left covered, all in The CIA. Keith and Elizabeth had answered each 3 correctly and one incorrectly since the break. Keith had 6400 and Elizabeth had 2000. John had answered 4 right and had 5000.
It seemed like Keith was going to move away from Will Power, but it was a good thing he didn’t – that next clue was a Daily Double. He’d gotten 7 right in the round and had 13600. John had gotten 4 right and had 9800. Elizabeth had gotten 3 right and had 5600. Keith wagered 5000 on this softball:
“He was first in his law class at Stanford.”
Keith got it right. I think John was looking for the next Daily Double because he went to a 1600 clue when he could, but Keith found it in Education. He had gotten one right since his last Daily Double and had 20200. John had gotten one right and had 11000. Keith wagered 5000 again on this clue, another no-brainer!: “In the 1950s Robert Havighurst popularized the phrase this ‘moment,’ meaning an opportunity to learn something.” I don’t know, but with 9 clues left I might be mentally packing my bags if I were the other 2 contestants. But I would’ve picked up 3600 on these two triple-stumpers in Names in These Tunes:
- “The Left Banke: ‘Walk Away _____.'”
- “A parody hit: ‘____ in Disguise (with Glasses).'”
I was highly annoyed that the last clue of the round was left covered. I have to think if Keith had wagered a little faster on his second Daily Double, and if Elizabeth hadn’t taken as long to select the first clue, we’d have seen it. Elizabeth, unfortunately, also took a long pause when, at the same time, she selected a clue and Mr. Trebek gave the one-minute warning with 6 clues left. She came alive though at the end, answering 5 right between Keith’s second Daily Double and the end of the round. John had gotten one right and one wrong. But alas, the efforts of John and Elizabeth were in vain: Keith ended the round with 25200, well out of reach for John at 10600 and Elizabeth with 10000. How would you have wagered if you were Elizabeth or John?
The Final
Jeopardy category was The 50 States. The clue: “Gambling as a commercial enterprise in some form is legal in all states except Hawaii & this state.” It took me a while but I came up with it in time. Elizabeth got it right. She wagered nothing. John got it too and wagered 10500. Keith got it too and wagered 3999.
My Coryat today was 29800; 32200 without negs.
